A short while ago, you could read the unboxing of the new iPhone 12 mini in our magazine. Now, of course, we have before us the classic first impressions, in which we will quickly summarize how this little thing affects us. If you have read the aforementioned unboxing, you already know that we took the model in black for testing. But what are the very first impressions?
The new iPhone 12 mini boasts great compact dimensions and a 5,4″ display. This relatively small size is partly responsible for the fact that the phone is simply very comfortable to hold, which goes hand in hand with the return to the sharp-edged design of the iPhone 4 and 5. Paradoxically, the sharp design can also raise concerns that the iPhone will seem to cut into the hands, which fortunately does not happen and holding the phone is really pleasant. I definitely have to give credit to Apple on this one. I myself am one of the lovers of these two former kings and since the release of the iPhone 6 I somehow hoped that one day we would see the return of this design. The smallest twelve reminds me very much of the comfort I last encountered a few years ago with the first generation iPhone SE, which of course boasted the same body as the "five." We must not forget to mention the aluminum chassis, which does not make holding the iPhone uncomfortable in any way.
I would like to stay with the size a little longer. I was the owner of a 4″ iPhone 5S for quite a long time before I finally decided to switch to a newer, and above all, bigger piece. But once Apple announced the arrival of the mini in October, I couldn't wait. In my opinion, the Californian giant has hit the nail on the head with this iPhone, and I believe that its size will excite a number of Apple fans who have been longing for exactly such a phone. The mini version is not for everyone anyway. For users who prefer a larger phone with a larger display, the very grip of this "little thing" would be quite a pain in the ass. Nevertheless, it seems to me that by releasing the mini model, Apple has filled a kind of hole in the range of Apple phones. When I hold it in my hand, various concepts from 2017 that showed what the successor to the iPhone SE from 2016 could theoretically look like keep coming to mind. And fortunately, we got it years later.
The size of the display is closely related to the size itself. So far, I've heard quite a few negative comments about the iPhone 12 mini, mainly because of its dimensions. According to these critics, there is no place for such a small phone in 2020, and any work or content viewing on it will be uncomfortable. Although I would not like to go into the details of the display here, which we will save for the review itself, I have to admit that there is not such a big difference compared to the classic "twelve" here. At the same time, it is necessary to realize that a person who requires the largest possible screen is of course not in the target group of the mini version. The Californian giant has opted for its OLED Super Retina XDR displays for this year's generation, which are simply amazing. In addition, when we put the iPhone 12 mini next to last year's version of the iPhone 11, at first glance we can see a huge step forward, which this year also reached the cheaper models. However, I would like to focus on the frames around the display. Although their size is quite optimal, I have to admit that they look rather clumsy on such a small body and Apple would certainly not spoil anything if they were made even thinner.
I was very surprised after unlocking the phone and testing it for the first time. At first glance, it is obvious that the Super Retina XDR display in combination with the advanced Apple A14 Bionic chip can do wonders. The iPhone runs incredibly fast, and although it offers the same display as the iPhone 11 Pro, it now seems smoother to me.
I have to admit that on first impression the iPhone 12 mini looks absolutely amazing and I'm snickering at Apple. I am extremely excited that the Californian giant has decided to release an apple phone in such a compact design, which in my opinion perfectly fills a hole in the market. I believe that users who want a smaller iPhone and Face ID will not hesitate for a moment and will immediately reach for this refined model. In terms of performance, this is definitely an excellent phone. But the battery life raises big questions, which we will shed light on in the upcoming review. You definitely have something to look forward to.
- You can buy the iPhone 12 in addition to Apple.com, for example at Alge
A little narrower frames would be nice. Personally, I would also welcome a telephoto lens, as I am used to it from the iPhone X - it distorts less when photographing documents. And what I would add here (and probably with all models) is touch ID for convenient unlocking with a mask. In this, Apple somehow failed to follow the development of the times in which we live. I love Face ID, but to be able to use both Face ID and Touch ID depending on the situation, that would be absolutely great, perfect. It does not necessarily have to be Touch ID in the display, it is enough to use the variant from the new iPad Air – Touch ID in the Power button. If Apple came up with that this year, it would be one of the most exciting innovations alongside the new design.
So, buying on Algae is not exactly a good idea. A few minutes after the start of pre-orders, I ordered there and nothing. This morning, Alza told me that, unfortunately, it will probably be 20.11. Try the resellers... iStyle, iWant, iStores or maybe Mobile Emergency, they got at least a few pieces there.
Is it possible to turn off 5G there and run only on 4G? Thanks
Yes, go to Settings–>Mobile Data–>Data Options–>Voice & Data and select LTE there.

One inconvenience. When the phone is charging on the cable and I'm on the phone, it gets quite uncomfortably hot. Does anyone have a similar experience?
. .
I don't agree, in my opinion, the phone holds badly, and its sharp edges are unpleasant to hold, and it's easy to use with one hand compared to the 1c
I have to say that using the phrase "California giant" three times in a row in an article is very imaginative and novel :-D I really want the Apple iPhone 12 mini and I hope that the California giant will discount it soon :-D
sorry [alt+8] *makes it cheaper
