Today, Apple released updates for three of its operating systems – iOS 9, OS X El Capitan and watchOS 2. No update brings any major changes, but rather minor news and improvements. iOS got new emoji, Office 2016 should work better on Mac.
iOS 9.1 – new emoji and better Live Photos
In the basic description of the iOS 9.1 update for iPhones and iPads, we find only two things. Improved Live Photos that now intelligently respond to when you pick up and put down your iPhone, so if you take a picture and immediately put your phone down, the recording will automatically stop.
The second biggest change is the arrival of more than 150 new emoji with full support for Unicode 7.0 and 8.0 emoticons. Among the new emojis we can find, for example, a burrito, cheese, the middle finger, a bottle of champagne or a unicorn head.
iOS 9.1 is also ready for new products – iPad Pro and Apple TV. iOS 9.1 will be required to pair the fourth-generation Apple TV, which will go on sale at least in the United States next week, with an iOS device. At the same time, the latest operating system corrects a number of errors that appeared in previous versions.
You can download iOS 9.1 directly on your iPhones and iPads.
OS X 10.11.1 – Mail and Office 2016 improvements
The OS X El Capitan operating system released in September received the first update. Version 10.11.1 also features new emoji, but it's mainly about fixing a few major bugs.
Compatibility with applications from the Microsoft Office 2016 suite, which has not yet worked reliably under El Capitan, has been improved. The Mail application received several fixes.
You can download OS X 10.11.1 in the Mac App Store.
watchOS 2.0.1 - bug fixes
The first update also met the operating system for apple watches. In watchOS 2.0.1, Apple developers also focused mainly on bug fixes. The software update itself was improved, errors that could affect battery life or prevent location updates or using Live Photo as a watch face were fixed.
You can download WatchOS 2.0.1 through the Apple Watch apps on your iPhone. The watch must be charged to at least 50 percent, must be connected to the charger and must be within range of the iPhone. For installation, you need iOS 9.0.2 or 9.1 on your iPhone.
Apple has also prepared a minor update for iTunes. According to its description, version 12.3.1 only brings improvements to the overall stability and performance of the application. The developers also received the GM version of tvOS, which will appear in the new Apple TV next week.
Unfortunately, after updating the iPhone 6S to IOS 9.1 and uploading the operator update, the option to set up 3G/LTE disappeared. There is only LTE enable/disable.
Ah, so perhaps with TMobile VoLTE? :-)
Well, with Vodafone, it didn't disappear on the iPhone 6S plus in version 9.1...
As the klok says below – you have nothing to lose, Vodafone does not support VoLTE :)
I think you are right.
Interesting that they didn't leave the original three choices. If they're going to let them turn off LTE, why not let them turn off 3G too, right?
Because where there is 3G, 90% also has LTE, and it will rise, 3G is on the decline, and it has never been extra widespread.
The VoLTE option is simply there at the price of either LTE or no LTE, but the phone decides.
So this is information of fundamental importance to me, even if it is only a few minutes from a certain regional town, I have such a poor 3G signal at home that the option to set only 2G is essential for me, otherwise the outgoing call is incomprehensible. T-mobile should be blushing red for its coverage.
Let me be more specific: after updating the iP6s, I was offered to update the operator settings, I declined that and the option of choosing 2G etc. remained. :)
I have a question about OSX El Capitan. Because I work a lot with images (editing, etc.), I always used saving and especially opening the image from the browser using drag and drop into Photoshop. I just grabbed the image and moved it over the dock icon and it was inserted into my Photoshop (or Pages and other program). This has always worked without any problems, but it doesn't work in El Capitan. Don't know about a setting? I assume that this is some kind of protection, which I would therefore very much like to disable. I'm working around it now with the Yoink program I have installed, but it's unnecessarily complicated because it's actually an extra step.
I also work with photos quite a bit, but I haven't experienced this problem. I have also installed the latest update since yesterday and it works normally. And I didn't have a problem with it before either.
Really? Strange because it doesn't work for me or my son. I can "insert" photos that I already have on my desktop into a folder with the Finder like this, but as soon as I want to save them directly from the browser and I tried both Chrome and Safari, nothing happens. And the worst thing is that he doesn't even report any error, nothing just happens. So I haven't installed the update yet, somehow there's no time, then I'll say...
I apologize for the wrong information, I tried it on photos stored on the disk and the cloud and it works there, I have the same problem from the browser.
jj :D I thought to myself :) I would just kill that Apple sometime, they could also teach the "Indians" to check the work one by one. so apparently the update doesn't solve anything. Shit... :(
It works for me when I hold CTRL. It didn't work in Yosemite and then it started working out of nowhere. I don't know if it's a CHROME or OSX problem.
Well, definitely OSX, because as I wrote, I also tried Safari...and CTRL doesn't help either :( Do you have yesterday's update or not?
Yes I have. It's now installed. I grab an image in CHROME, for example here in the article, drag it to the camera icon and press CTRL. The image will open. Photos doesn't work for me either.
Hmm apparently he allows some apps and not others. So I have a hunch that Photoshop will be the same as Photos... oh yeah... an iron rod and heavy blows to that programmer...
Hmm, apparently there aren't a few of us who have this problem...https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1977508
I am surprised how such a company with a long history and a series of successes, interested in every detail and the best possible approach to users, can still have so many unnecessary shortcomings. Why can't I see the size of the offered updates in Mac OS? Why do I have to find out during the download that the update is 1,31 GB? Had I known this in advance, I wouldn't have pulled it over mobile data. This dilettantism annoys me. At the same time, it is often complete nonsense.
… how about being able to change the folder icon in 2015?
Considering the nature of the update, I would say that APPLE released a new operating system and not an update.
After the 10.11.1 update, nothing happens after inserting the disk into the drive - it does not appear on the desktop.
Um, and is it 3,5″ or 5,25″? :D I would also understand that El Capitan will not be able to work with floppy disks :D You probably meant CD, didn't you?
It is an external LaCie 3,5″ USB floppy drive. It worked on 10.9, but it doesn't work on 10.11...
After the 10.11.1 update, the Recovery partition disappeared from the disk.
Vita, where did the option to turn on iTunes match disappear in the new version of iTunes? thank you
At the top, click on the account - Account information.
there is only information about honor, but there is no option to turn on itunes match. In the previous version it was under - store - turn on itunes match. This is also how they describe it on the apple website. Any other tips?
I say it's still there :)
we probably don't understand each other, I was looking for where to turn on itunes match and not information until when it is active. Turning on itunes match is now done as follows: Make sure you are signed into tunes and the go to preferences, general preferences and check iCloud music library.
as I wrote "the drive was under the heading shop" - turn on match. It doesn't matter, but thanks for the effort anyway.
Oh well, who couldn't find one? They moved it elsewhere, here they write about it: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7296309
Hello, has anyone tried whether the new version of iOS has finally solved the problem with notifications not appearing (e.g. with WhatsApp)? :)
It works for me, I have an iPhone 4s
Thanks, at least some good news :) I also have a 4S and so far notifications have not been displayed in about 50% of cases (or they have been displayed but without sound).
I'll install it as soon as I get home :)
So wrong. Sometimes yes, sometimes not - on Whatsapp:-(
After the update to 10.11.1, Mail.app crashes for me, immediately after starting and repeatedly, i.e. I can't access emails :-(
(MacBook AIR 2014)
According to the discussions, I am not the only one and there is no satisfactory solution for this yet.
So you better wait.
Try deleting the three files named "Envelope index" in this directory:
Users/ "your name" /Library/Mail/V3/MailData/
Then it should be fine.
@dusank: unfortunately I also have a problem with email after the update, I have dynamic folders where I sort emails and unfortunately I can't see some emails and some I can ……
I updated my iPhone to 9.1. I can't sign in to itunes. And I received an email that I bought some music on itunes at 05.30 in the morning. And if not, then I should log into itunes. If I want to do it, I need the entire registration. Can someone help me?
Does anyone have the same problem of not being able to search in contacts? IP6
It doesn't work on IP6 for me either.
How is the fluidity on the iP 5C?
Well, as I'm reading now, I'd rather not update... I have a virtual operator that is otherwise connected to T-Mobile, and sometimes I don't even get 3G, only 2G... so I'll probably stay on iOS 8.3.
The impossibility of turning off 3g is a matter of swearing and swearing.... I live about 500 meters from the center of the village of Brno (Videnska Street, just outside Svratka....) and 3g from TMobile has 0-2 signal points here.... If I don't have the option to turn it off, my phone uses the battery for half the day as it tries to stay on 3g, and on top of that, I sometimes get an SMS from the operator saying that someone tried to call me and I was out of signal.... The voice resets my operator settings it pops up 4-5 times a day, once I squeeze it and the phone will be just a decoration again... Grrrrr...
Exactly the same with me, only it is the village of Ostrava. :)
I am facing the problem of non-functional location services on os x 10.11.1. Respectively, it works sometimes, but in most cases it does not turn on. Of course, at least I hope everything is enabled :)
Does anyone have any tips on how to deal with this?
M.
Dude, iOS mail has stopped displaying pdf attachments. The email is marked with a paper clip, but no attachment can be seen in the body of the email or below it. Ideas what about it?
Greetings :), I have a 4S and after the update to iOS9.1, some applications do not work, they basically open, but immediately fall into the background. Does anyone have a solution to this please? Thank you very much :)
Hello, I have a question. Is there somewhere in iOS 9.1 to turn off the fact that after turning on the iPad (2), it opens the last three open applications? Resp. when i turn on the ipad and press the home button twice, i see open apps that were closed before the ipad was turned off. I turn off the ipad, or just put it to sleep. Thanks.
