On Tuesday, Apple introduced a new generation of its iPhone SE. It was almost certain that this would happen at this spring event, where we also saw other news in the form of green iPhones 13 and 13 Pro, iPad Air 5th generation, Mac Studio desktop and a new external display. But does the iPhone SE make sense in the field of current smartphones, and is it worth investing in?

The answer is not entirely clear. The 3rd generation iPhone SE needs to be approached a little differently than, say, the iPhone 11, 12 and 13, which the company still has on offer. The indisputable fact is simply that the iPhone SE is based on the iPhone 8 model, which was introduced back in 2017. If this bothers you, that for your money you still get a small 4,7" display with a home button located below it, this phone is not for your. On the other hand, this can be its advantage, because it makes the device really compact and easy to use.

Older users

But its main advantage is the desktop button, which has clear and years-proven functions. In particular, older users may find gestures performed on the display difficult, whereas a physical button will give them clear feedback. As a result, they don't have to be cut off from Apple's ecosystem, especially iMessage and FaceTime. They also don't care how big the display is, because the basic functions will do more than well with it. They don't even care about the quality of the camera, because they can take snapshots of their grandchildren perfectly, and they won't lose their performance even in 5 years. In addition, system support is guaranteed here, although it cannot be assumed that they will use all the new functions that will come in the future.

Children are required to attend school

It must be said that the performance of the iPhone SE will be enough for any demanding user, because there is no more powerful chip in the smartphone field than the A15 Bionic, which is present in the iPhone 13 and 13 Pro and now also in the SE 3rd generation model. It is rather a question of whether this device can use it at all. A small display is not very ideal for playing games, for regular viewing of longer videos it is also worth reaching for a model with a larger display. After all, social networks are also better viewed on larger devices.

Already in 2020, in the case of the 2nd generation iPhone SE model, its use by young and school-aged users was on the verge. Now the question is whether a child would really want such an archaic looking device among all those Android phones and with their large displays. Moreover, if it should work with it for several years. Yes, it's an iPhone, but not everyone will like its appearance.

iPhone SE 2nd generation owners

If you own a previous generation iPhone SE, it depends on whether it makes sense for you to increase the performance, thereby improving the life of the device and improving the camera software. If the iPhone SE from 2020 still serves you and you don't notice its limits, there is no point in upgrading. There is still 5G, but whether you use its potential is up to you. However, any owner of an iPhone with a bezel-less display, and perhaps even an iPhone XR, will probably not want to go back just for performance and 5G.

It's a question of price

But if you want the most powerful and cheapest new Apple phone on the market, the iPhone SE 3rd generation is the obvious choice. You'll get a state-of-the-art chip in an outdated body, but if the latter isn't a big deal for you, you won't be disappointed with the 3rd generation SE. However, it is necessary to think about whether not to balance a better ratio of price and performance rather in the iPhone 11 model.

The new iPhone SE 3rd generation costs CZK 64 in the 12 GB version. You will pay 490 CZK for 128 GB and 13 CZK for the 990 GB configuration. But since Apple still officially sells the iPhone 256, you will pay CZK 16 for its 990GB storage. So it's two thousand extra, but you'll have Face ID, a 11" display, an ultra-wide-angle camera, and you'll only lose out on performance. But the A64 Bionic is still powerful enough not to limit you in any way. Because it is also an older model, it is also often discounted by various distributors, so you can get even closer to the 14rd generation SE model with the final price.
