Apple's main draw is undoubtedly the iPhone, but if you already have it and are happy with it, what prevents you from switching from Windows to macOS? The PC market in general is falling for the 6th quarter in a row. But Mac sales are growing by contrast. Why?

Mac sales rose 2023% year-on-year in the second quarter of 10,3, according to analyst firm IDC. But all other brands fell, with one exception, by double digits. Overall, PC shipments were expected to decline by 13,4% year-on-year, with macroeconomic headwinds, weak demand from the consumer and commercial sectors, and a shift of IT budgets away from new equipment purchases to blame.

But the decline is also due to the fact that many suppliers are still sitting on their unsold stocks and therefore do not order new machines, because logically they do not need to have them in stock. But Apple can also owe its growth to strategy and chance. Last year, it had a very limited offer, which was mainly kept afloat by the 13" MacBook Air, and it was also the case that it suffered from supply problems in Q2 2022 due to supply chain shutdowns related to COVID. But now the situation has already been fully stabilized and supported by the new models that the company launched in January, i.e. MacBook Pro and Mac mini. With the new 15" MacBook Air, one can guess that Q3 2023 might not be bad either.

Now, after all, a turnaround is generally expected, i.e. that customers will return to their habits before the global pandemic, which should have an effect on the restart of the market. It was during the pandemic that the biggest boom took place, when everyone stocked up on appropriate electronics, which are now not in demand. The leader in computer sales, Lenovo, thus lost 18,4% year-on-year, the number two in the form of HP but only 0,8%, the third Dell lost 22% and the fifth Acer 19,2%.

The current Q2 2023 market share rankings look like this:

  • Lenovo – 23,1%
  • HP – 21,8%
  • Dell - 16,8%
  • Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), - 8,6%
  • Acer – 6,4%
