How to perceive the current Apple Watch portfolio? We have one model available here, the entry-level Series and the second-generation Apple Watch Ultra. But if we look at the novelties that were added in the fall, they are not essential in order to force customers to buy. But does Apple even want it? Of course, but it all seems more like he's not targeting those who already own an Apple Watch.

According to a CIRP survey, every 4th iPhone user (and 0 Android users) has an Apple Watch. It's a fantastic number that also makes the Apple Watch the best-selling watch in the world in general. Recently, however, it seems rather that Apple does not know where to take this portfolio next. Thanks to the popularity of the Apple Watch, this is enough for him on the one hand, but on the other hand, he could reach more and more users with another innovation.

Anyone else want something like a bracelet?

If you ask someone what's new in the Apple Watch Series 9, they'll probably tell you the Tap gesture, even though it's not available yet. If you do that with the Apple Watch Ultra 2, the watch face will tell you that. Apple doesn't improve its watch very much, and it makes sense because it doesn't have much room to go. That is also why we saw an expansion of the portfolio last year, which brought a more professional look to the watches. The problem is that the Ultras are already at such a level by themselves that there is not much room to move them, which their 2nd generation was able to do. Many of us and you certainly also expected that they wouldn't happen this year, and if that really didn't happen, probably no one would be angry.

The basic Series is also being improved slowly. Actually, only with regard to the chip, the brightness of the display and a few details (then of course there is watchOS, which teaches even old watches new tricks). Now information has leaked that Samsung is preparing a successor to its smart bracelet. Would it be a certain direction for Apple as well? Of course not. Apple doesn't need to develop a cheap device that sinks a huge amount of money into just to expand its portfolio with something like a sparsely equipped fitness bracelet. And that's also because the Apple Watch SE or cheaper older generations of the Series series are relatively available here.

There is no path in the materials either

Chile is also dealing with materials where Apple could switch from aluminum to some kind of composite, such as Garmin's production excels. But here comes the question again, why would he do it? Aluminum is durable enough, it is elegant and not heavy. He already tried it with ceramics, but there is no need to raise the price and make some limits when we have titanium Ultras and relatively expensive steel Series.

As the Apple Watch can already do what it can, it will become more and more difficult to upgrade it with more capabilities. Due to the size, you can't grow to infinity even here. Changing the design to straight sides and a flat display may be desirable, but it will only help in distinguishing generations, when it will no longer be useful.

So if you're waiting for the future Apple Watch, wondering what new things they'll bring, don't wait too long. It's likely that Apple may further expand gesture control, which it will only lock for the latest generations, but it's certainly nothing that the current customer of the company's watch on their wrist can't live without. Apple is therefore targeting those who do not yet have an Apple Watch. The existing owners will be offered the answer to the upgrade once again with an interval of about three years, when the intergenerational innovations will accumulate more.
