More and more people are deciding when Apple will introduce the new iPads. The first window could be in September together with the new iPhones, it may be more likely until October for a separate Keynote and likewise the spring of next year. Will Apple finally give the iPad Air and iPad mini the ProMotion function? If we wait for her, we will probably disappoint you.

For devices with a ProMotion display, we can enjoy a refresh rate of 120 Hz, which many competing manufacturers have been offering for a long time, not only for smartphones but also for tablets. This technology ensures adaptive refresh of content based on what is happening on the display and how you interact with it. In case of fast movement, the display refreshes up to 120 times per second, while in static conditions, in the case of the iPhone 14 Pro Max, it needs to be refreshed 1x per second. So the first advantage of this is in saving the battery. Apple first implemented this technology in the iPad Pro, and only then did we see it in the iPhone 13 Pro. Now even 14 and 16" MacBook Pros have it.

Apart from the effect on the device's durability, it's about how smoothly it displays the content. If you think you can't tell the difference between the 60Hz that the standard iPhones have and the 120Hz that the Pro series iPhones have, you're wrong. It can already be seen when scrolling through the content. You will then get used to it really quickly that you simply don't want anything "slower".

Too few differences

There is currently speculation as to whether Apple will add ProMotion to basic iPhones as well. It would definitely like it, because not only do they look very outdated compared to the Pro versions because of this, it is even more painful with regard to the competition, namely the significantly cheaper competition. But the company's strategy is clear, i.e. to try to distinguish the top models from the basic ones.

The same problem exists among iPads. Many customers may prefer the iPad Air to the Pro series, which has sufficient performance and quality, but lacks ProMotion, which relegates it to a lower league in terms of ease of use. So if Apple gave it ProMotion, it would achieve even greater cannibalization of professional iPads, which it does not want. To do so, he would have to differentiate the Pro line even more, but there isn't much how yet.

Except for the iPad Air, neither the iPad mini nor the basic iPad have ProMotion. The latter can't even be expected to get it soon, with the iPad mini it's more of a question if Apple will ever update it again, because it's not very regular and it seems that it releases it as it pleases currently throwing in the shop.
