This would start a completely new product line, which should be as important as the iPhone at the beginning, while it should clearly surpass it later. And it theoretically follows that there is also a risk of the company's CEO leaving.
However, introducing and successfully launching a product line are two different things. And it would be rather sad to see if Cook introduced such unique hardware and immediately stopped being interested in it by resigning from his position. It may be more likely that he will wait another generation or two to have peace of mind that the product is headed in the right direction. So even if we can expect a new CEO next year, it is more likely to be later, around 2025. A suitable successor in the company then he will surely find.
