The first iPhone SE was introduced by Apple back in 2016. It was supposed to be not only a more affordable iPhone model, but also one that would bring customers ever more compact dimensions than those offered by the adult 4,7 and 5,5" iPhones. Apple should build on these two factors in the future generation as well.

The current 3rd generation iPhone SE, introduced in spring 2022, is based on the iPhone 8, so it provides a 4,7” display with a home button underneath. Although it is archaic for us, it has many supporters, even among older users, thanks to Touch ID. Except for the chip, this is a really old design, which Apple actually started in 2014 with the iPhone 6.

Even before any 3rd generation came along, we heard what it was guaranteed to look like and what it would be able to do. In fact, it could have been either just the way it is or completely revamped, which it wasn't, but we wanted it all the more because many didn't believe that Apple could still bring the same old design in 2022.

The iPhone mini may be the ideal way to go

A recent report from MacRumors revealed that Apple is experimenting with a new iPhone SE that looks very similar to the 6,1-inch iPhone 14. This iPhone would have Face ID and a single rear camera, this time with a 48-megapixel lens. On the one hand, yes, we really want this, on the other hand, we wonder why Apple would have to resort to a completely new design?

In the beginning, we indicated how nice it would be to have a small and cheap device. At the same time, many users still call for small phones, but iPhones 12 and 13 with the epithet mini are a thing of the past. However, it is the future iPhone SE that could revive them. First of all, Apple will once again just have to put a new chip in the iPhone and offer customers a great phone with really compact dimensions. Secondly, there is no need to cut back on equipment, the lines are set, we have the chassis. Face ID is here, two decent cameras as well, OLED display is not missing, only the Lightning one would have to replace the USB-C connector.

According to available reports, Apple is going to increase the display sizes of its iPhone 16 Pro next year. With the new small iPhone SE, we would have a really wide range of device sizes and the displays themselves, which would really make sense. After all, you can see how it could look like below.

  • iPhone SE 4nd generation: 5,4" display
  • iPhone 16: 6,1" display
  • iPhone 16 Pro: 6,3" display
  • 16 iPhone Plus: 6,7" display
  • iPhone 16 Pro Max: 6,9" display
