Currently, more than 24 hours have passed since the introduction of new apple products. During that time, we looked at the hottest news and news in our magazine. If you didn't watch yesterday's Apple Keynote, Apple introduced the new ninth-generation iPad, then the sixth-generation iPad mini, then the Apple Watch Series 7 and finally the brand new iPhones 13 and 13 Pro. In previous articles, we have already looked at all the information you wanted to know about most of these mentioned products. In this article, we'll look at everything you wanted to know about the last remaining product, the iPhone 13 (mini).

Design and processing

Last year, with the introduction of the iPhone 12, Apple rushed to redesign the entire chassis. This specifically has become sharp, similar to the case of the iPad Pro several long years ago. If we were to compare the design and processing of this year's iPhone 13 with last year's "twelves", we will not find much change or difference. The truth is that we can practically only observe the color change. There are a total of five available and they are Star White, Dark Ink, Blue, Pink and (PRODUCT)RED. Compared to the iPhone 13 Pro, the classic "thirteen" is made of aluminum, not stainless steel. The back side is, of course, glass for four years already.

If you are interested in dimensions, the classic iPhone 13 measures 146,7 x 71,5 x 7,65 millimeters, while the smaller sibling measures 131,5 x 64,2 x 7,65 millimeters. The weight of the larger model is 173 grams, and the "mini" weighs only 140 grams. On the right side of the body there is still the power button, on the left we find the volume control buttons and the silent mode switch. On the bottom, we find holes for the speakers and between them there is still a Lightning connector, which is already really outdated. Apple should definitely switch to USB-C as soon as possible, not only because of Lightning's extremely low transfer speeds, but also because most other Apple products have USB-C. All iPhones 13 have protection against dust and water. Dust and water resistance is determined by the IP68 certification according to the IEC 60529 standard. This means that the iPhone 13 (mini) is water resistant for up to 30 minutes at a depth of six meters. Of course, Apple still doesn't accept water damage claims.

Display

The displays of practically all Apple phones have always been high-quality, colorful, soft... in short, amazing. And this year, this claim is deepened, as iPhones 13 also have perfect displays. If we look at the iPhone 13, we will find that it has a 6.1″ OLED display labeled Super Retina XDR. This display then has a resolution of 2532 x 1170 pixels, which gives a resolution of 460 pixels per inch. The smaller sibling in the form of the iPhone 13 mini then has a 5.4″ Super Retina XDR OLED display, specifically with a resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels, which gives us a resolution of 476 pixels per inch. These displays support HDR, True Tone, wide color gamut and Haptic Touch. The contrast ratio is 2:000, the maximum brightness reaches 000 nits, but if you display HDR content, the maximum brightness rises to 1 nits.

The display of the new iPhone 13 (mini) is protected by a special hardened Ceramic Shield glass. This guarantees perfect resistance, specifically thanks to the ceramic crystals that are applied to the glass at high temperatures during production. In the upper part of the display, there is still a cut-out for Face ID, which is finally smaller this year. To be precise, the cutout is overall narrower, but on the other hand, it is slightly thicker. You probably won't recognize it in normal use, but it's good to know this information anyway.

Performance

All newly introduced iPhones, i.e. 13 mini, 13, 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max, offer a brand new A15 Bionic chip. This chip has a total of six cores, two of which are performance and the remaining four are economical. Apple specifically stated during the presentation that the A15 Bionic chip is up to 50% more powerful than its competition. At the same time, he stated that the competition in terms of performance does not even catch up to two-year-old apple chips. The GPU then has four cores, which is one core less than the Pro models. A total of 15 billion transistors take care of the operation of the A15 Bionic chip. For now, we do not know the capacity of the RAM memory - it will be known perhaps in the coming days. Of course, there is also 5G support, but let's face it, it is relatively useless in the country.

Camera

Not only Apple, but also other smartphone manufacturers are constantly trying to come up with even better cameras every year. Some companies chase their shirts on numbers and hundreds of megapixels, other companies, especially Apple, go about it differently. If you have an overview of the camera specifications of Apple phones, then you certainly know that the apple company has been using lenses with a resolution of 12 megapixels for several years. The iPhone 13 is no different. Specifically, the iPhone 13 (mini) offers two lenses – one wide-angle and the other ultra-wide-angle. This means that the telephoto lens is missing compared to the Pro models. The aperture of the wide-angle camera is f/1.6, while the ultra-wide-angle camera has an aperture of f/2.4 and a 120° field of view. Due to the absence of a telephoto lens, we have to do without optical zoom, but on the other hand, portrait mode, True Tone flash, panorama, 100% Focus Pixels or optical image stabilization for the wide-angle lens are available. In particular, Apple used sensor shift stabilization for this lens, which was only available last year on the iPhone 12 Pro Max. We can also mention Deep Fusion, Smart HDR 4 and others.

When recording video, you can then look forward to a brand new film mode for recording videos with a small depth of field, specifically in a resolution of up to 1080p at 30 FPS. This mode is available exclusively for all new "thirteens" and thanks to it, it is possible to create special videos in which there is an automatic refocusing from the background to the foreground and back, i.e. to change the depth of field. You may know this mode from various movies, as it is used in them really often - and now you will be able to use it on your iPhone 13 or 13 Pro. Of course, you can still shoot classically, in HDR Dolby Vision format in 4K resolution at 60 FPS. If you shoot with a wide-angle lens, you can look forward to a perfectly stable image, thanks to the aforementioned optical image stabilization with sensor shift. We can also mention functions in the form of audio zoom, True Tone LED illumination, QuickTake Video, slow-motion video in 1080p resolution at up to 240 FPS and others.

Front camera

The iPhone 13 (mini) has a front camera that has a resolution of 12 Mpx and an aperture number of f/2.2. This camera does not lack a portrait mode, support for Animoji and Memoji using TrueDepth, as well as night mode, Deep Fusion, Smart HDR 4, a selection of photo styles or a film mode, which we discussed in the paragraph above, and which can also use the front camera to create a recording in 1080p resolution at 30 FPS. Classic video can be shot in HDR Dolby Vision mode in 4K resolution at up to 60 FPS, or you can shoot slow-motion footage in 1080p resolution and 30 FPS. We can also mention support for time-lapse, video stabilization or QuickTake.

Charging and battery

At the presentation of the new iPhones, Apple said that it had managed to completely "dig" their insides so that a larger battery could fit inside. However, as the Californian giant has a habit of doing, it always keeps the specific capacity of the batteries to itself, just like in the case of RAM. In previous years, however, this information appeared within a few days of the conference, and this year will most likely be no different. On the other hand, however, Apple states in the technical specifications how long the iPhone 13 (mini) lasts on a single charge during individual tasks. Specifically, the iPhone 13 achieves 19 hours of video playback, 15 hours of video streaming, and 75 hours of audio playback. The smaller model in the form of a "mini" can last up to 17 hours on a single charge when playing video, 13 hours when streaming video, and 55 hours when playing audio. Both of the mentioned iPhones can be charged up to 20W with a charging adapter (not included in the package), with which you can get up to 50% charge in the first 30 minutes. It goes without saying that it supports 15W MagSafe wireless charging or classic Qi wireless charging with a maximum power of 7,5W.

Price, Storage, Availability

If you like the new iPhone 13 or 13 mini and would like to buy it, you are certainly interested in what capacities it is available in and of course also what the price is. Both models are available in a total of three capacity variants, namely 128 GB, 256 GB, 512 GB. The prices of the iPhone 13 are 22 crowns, 990 crowns and 25 crowns, while the smaller brother in the form of the iPhone 990 mini is priced at 32 crowns, 190 crowns and 13 crowns. The start of sales is then set for September 19 – on this day, the first pieces of new iPhones will also appear in the hands of their owners.
