On the occasion of yesterday's Apple Keynote, the expected iPhone 13 (Pro) was revealed. The new generation of Apple phones relied on the same design as its predecessor, but still introduced a number of interesting innovations. This is especially true in the case of the iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max models, which once again push the imaginary boundary several steps forward. So let's quickly summarize everything we know about phones with the Pro designation.

Design and processing

As we already indicated in the very introduction, no major changes have taken place in terms of design and processing. Nevertheless, there is one interesting change in this direction that apple growers have been calling for for several years. Of course, we are talking about the smaller upper cutout, which has often been the target of criticism and has finally been reduced by 20%. However, in terms of design, the iPhone 13 Pro (Max) retains the same sharp edges as the iPhone 12 Pro (Max). However, it is available in other colors. Namely, it is mountain blue, silver, gold and graphite gray.

But let's take a look at the dimensions themselves. The standard iPhone 13 Pro has a body measuring 146,7 x 71,5 x 7,65 millimeters, while the iPhone 13 Pro Max version offers 160,8 x 78,1 x 7,65 millimeters. In terms of weight, we can count on 203 and 238 grams. It is still unchanged. So on the right side of the body is the power button, on the left are the volume control buttons, and on the bottom side is the speaker, microphone and Lightning connector for power and synchronization. Of course, there is also water resistance according to IP68 and IEC 60529 standards. The phones can therefore last up to 30 minutes at a depth of 6 meters. However, the warranty does not cover water damage (classic).

Display with great improvement

If you watched yesterday's Apple Keynote, you certainly didn't miss the news related to the display. But before we get to it, let's look at the basic information. Even in the case of this year's generation, the display is top-notch and thus offers a first-class experience. The iPhone 13 Pro is equipped with a Super Retina XDR OLED display with a 6,1″ diagonal, a resolution of 2532 x 1170 pixels and a fineness of 460 PPI. In the case of the iPhone 13 Pro Max, it is also a Super Retina XDR OLED display, but this model offers a 6,7" diagonal, a resolution of 2778 x 1287 pixels and a fineness of 458 PPI.

In any case, the biggest novelty is the support for ProMotion, i.e. adaptive refresh rate. Apple users have been calling for a phone with a higher refresh rate for several years, and they finally got it. The display in the case of the iPhone 13 Pro (Max) can change its refresh rate based on the content, specifically in the range of 10 to 120 Hz. Of course, there is also support for HDR, the True Tone function, a wide color range of P3 and Haptic Touch. As for the contrast ratio, it is 2:000 and the maximum brightness reaches 000 nits – in the case of HDR content, even 1 nits. As with the iPhone 1000 (Pro), there is also a Ceramic Shield here.

Performance

All four new iPhone 13s are powered by Apple's brand new A15 Bionic chip. It mainly benefits from its 6-core CPU, with 2 cores being powerful and 4 economical. As for graphics performance, the 5-core GPU takes care of that. All this is complemented by a 16-core Neural Engine protecting work with machine learning. In total, the A15 Bionic chip is made up of 15 billion transistors and achieves up to 50% better results than the most powerful competition. However, it is still unclear how much operating memory the phones will offer.

Cameras

In the case of iPhones, Apple has been betting on the capabilities of its cameras in recent years. Therefore, although all the lenses on the latest iPhone 13 Pro (Max) are equipped with "only" a 12MP sensor, they can still take care of first-class photos. Specifically, it is a wide-angle lens with an aperture of f/1.5, an ultra-wide-angle lens with an aperture of f/1.8 and a telephoto lens with an aperture of f/2.8.

Another interesting feature is the 120° field of view in the case of the ultra-wide-angle camera or up to three times optical zoom in the case of the telephoto lens. The night mode, which was already at a sufficiently high level before, was also improved, mainly thanks to the LiDAR scanner. The optical image stabilization of the wide-angle lens can also please you, which is even doubled in the case of the ultra-wide-angle and telephoto lenses. We continued to see interesting news called Focus Pixels for better focusing on the wide-angle camera. There is also Deep Fusion, Smart HDR 4 and the option of choosing your own photo styles. At the same time, Apple equipped the iPhone with the ability to take macro photos.

It is a bit more interesting in the case of video recording. Apple came up with an extremely interesting new feature called Cinematic mode. This mode allows you to record videos in 1080p resolution at 30 frames per second, but it can easily and quickly refocus from object to object and thus achieve a first-class cinematic effect. Subsequently, there is of course the option to record in HDR Dolby Vision up to 4K at 60 FPS, or recording in Pro Res at 4K and 30 FPS.

Of course, the front camera was not forgotten either. Here you can come across a 12MP f/2.2 camera that offers support for portrait, night mode, Deep Fusion, Smart HDR 4, photo-styles and Apple ProRaw. Even here, the aforementioned Cinematic mode can be used, also in 1080p resolution with 30 frames per second. Standard videos can still be recorded in HDR Dolby Vision up to 4K at 60 FPS, ProRes video even up to 4K at 30 FPS.

Bigger battery

Apple already mentioned during the presentation of the new iPhones that due to the new arrangement of internal components, more space was left for a larger battery. Unfortunately, for the time being, it is not entirely clear how exactly the battery capacity is in the case of the Pro models. In any case, the giant from Cupertino states on its website that the iPhone 13 Pro will last 22 hours when playing video, 20 hours when streaming it, and 75 hours when playing audio. The iPhone 13 Pro Max can last up to 28 hours of video playback, around 25 hours of streaming, and a whopping 95 hours of audio playback. The power supply then takes place via a standard Lightning port. Of course, the use of a wireless charger or MagSafe is still offered.
