WhatsApp will secure user communication using end-to-end encryption (November 18)

WhatsApp, the most popular communication application across platforms, will now offer high-quality end-to-end coding and thus secure the communication of its users. It will achieve this by partnering with Open Whisper Systems, a company that specializes in coding. WhatsApp will thus use the same encryption software used by former US secret service employee Edward Snowden.

The partnership between the two companies was reported directly by Open Whisper Systems this week. The TextSecure encryption system will work in the latest version of WhatsApp, which has been owned by Facebook since October. For now, however, only Android users can enjoy encryption.

After the global launch, however, it will be an end-to-end encryption project that has no parallels in history. The essence of this encryption method is that the message is encoded when it is sent and decoded only on the recipient's device. Even the service provider does not have access to the content of the message.

Form developer tool is free after acquisition by Google (19/11)

RelativeWave, the team behind the Form app for Mac, has announced that it has been acquired by advertising giant Google. As a result of this acquisition, the prototyping and design app Form has been discounted and is now available completely free in the Mac App Store instead of its original price of $80.

For developers, Form is a very useful tool. Thanks to it, they can call up previews of the applications they are currently designing. Additionally, as a result of the acquisition, it is likely that the app will not be exclusive to iOS-focused developers in the future. However, Google has not yet released specific information.

Things for iPhone and iPad are free, the Mac version is available for a third cheaper (November 20)

Developers from the Culture Code studio reached out to them with a completely unprecedented sales pitch and their highly successful GTD application Things they offer for a whole week completely free. The discount also applies to both dedicated applications, i.e. the pro version iPhone even the pro version iPad. As part of the event, the desktop version of Things was also discounted. Instead of the original price of €44,99, you can download the Mac application for "only" 30,99 €.

As expected, the event has a great response and Things are really visible in both app stores. In the Mac App Store, the application received its own banner at the top of the store window and at the same time dominated the ranking of paid applications. The iOS version, on the other hand, won the title of "Free App of the Week" and also advanced significantly in the ranking of the most downloaded applications.

However, this move by the developers, on the other hand, may be further proof that the 3.0 version, which is currently in development, will not be a free update. In Culture Code, they will probably pay handsomely for it, and giving away the "expired" version to the masses is probably just well-targeted marketing to expand the base of those who will pay for the new version.

New applications

Chrome for Mac officially comes with support for 64-bit systems

The new Chrome with serial number 39.0.2171.65 is the first stable and official version of Chrome for OS X that supports 64-bit systems. It promises a faster start and more efficient work with memory. However, the new version is not available for 32-bit systems, which means that users with Macs older than 2006-2007 are likely to have seen the last version of Chrome in version 38.

Chrome 39 also addresses forty-two security flaws. You can download your favorite internet browser from Google directly from company website.

Record your calls with Call Recorder for FaceTime

Call Recorder for FaceTime, an app that does exactly what its name suggests, isn't really a new app. Recently, however, this tool has acquired a whole new dimension that needs to be mentioned.

Call Recorder for FaceTime, which can record your FaceTime calls (video and only audio), benefits greatly from the new Handoff function and its ability to redirect calls from the phone to the Mac. Thanks to this redirection, you can also record mobile calls on your Mac.

Important update

WhatsApp comes with iPhone 6 and 6 Plus support

In connection with the communication application WhatsApp Messenger, it is necessary to draw attention to one more news from this week. WhatsApp was updated to version 2.11.14 and finally received native support for the larger displays of "six" iPhones. The update also includes minor bug fixes. Unfortunately, the application did not receive any major news.

2Do for iOS brings an active widget and faster sync

The excellent GTD app 2Do for iOS has received a major update. As one of the first applications of its kind, it brings an active widget to the Notification Center, in which you can display current tasks and immediately mark them off as completed. The algorithm for synchronization via iCloud was also rewritten, which really accelerated the synchronization process significantly.

The application, which received a complete redesign this year, is even better than before and offers a high-quality alternative to normally more expensive competitors such as Things or OmniFocus. We are already preparing a 2Do review for you, which you can look forward to next week.

Pocket now integrates 1Password, the settlement extension has made it significantly faster

The Pocket iOS application for saving articles for later reading has also received a slight improvement. The first news is the integration of the 1Password service, thanks to which users of this service will be able to log into Pocket much easier and faster. The second novelty is Dynamic Type support, thanks to which the font of the application adapts to the settings of your system. The last improvement is the redesign of the app's sharing extension, which is now much faster.

Dropbox's Carousel is coming to iPad and the web

Carousel is an app for backing up and viewing images via the Dropbox cloud service. The Dropbox app itself can serve the same purpose, but Carousel is designed specifically for working with images, and the developers have made every effort to make working with them as fast as with locally stored files.

Carousel has existed in versions for iOS and Android smartphones since the beginning of last year, but only now has a version for iPad and the web been released. It tries, similarly to the iPhone, to work as best as possible with the space on the display, it displays some photos larger than others, minimizes the white spaces between them, etc.

The new display of individual images allows double-tapping to zoom, the delete button is more accessible, as is sharing. Carousel also now works with Instagram and WhatsApp, so you can send an image from your Carousel library to these two services in seconds.

OneNote finally syncs in the background on iOS

The application for creating and managing notes from Microsoft had a problem with synchronization in its mobile version until now, because it did not run in the background. As a result, OneNote seemed slower than the competition. It is this problem that is addressed by the update to version 2.6, in which background synchronization is the only new feature.

Evernote for Mac is now compatible with OS X Yosemite

Evernote for Mac has received a major update, with the developers stating the following:

At Evernote, we believe that speed and stability are essential for productivity. And that's why we've completely rewritten Evernote for Mac. Evernote is noticeably faster, more reliable, and uses less power than ever before. We've also added some new features!

Evernote has undergone a complete redesign and is now perfectly tuned to OS X Yosemite. The philosophy of the application has been completely preserved and its loyal users will definitely not get lost in it. Everything works the same and has stayed in the same place, it just often looks a little different. The new features mainly include the following:

  • possibility to change the size and color of the background of the tables
  • the ability to change the size of the image when creating a note
  • search results are sorted by relevance and can also be searched using Spotlight
  • By default, Evernote stays logged in
  • users can now communicate with each other directly in the application using the Work Chat function, which arrived on iOS earlier
  • Context – a premium feature that displays notes, articles and people related to what the user is currently working on

Adobe Lightroom now offers import from iPhoto and Aperture, Adobe Camera Raw has also been updated

The Adobe Lightroom photo editing and management program in version 5.7 does not bring much new. Even that little is worth paying attention to. Firstly, the element for importing photos from iPhoto or Aperture, which in the previous version was only available through a plug-in, becomes part of this software. Second, Lightroom can now display feedback and comments on photos posted on the Lightroom website.

Adobe has also updated its Camera Raw. Version 8.7 brings support for importing and working with RAW photos for twenty-four new devices, including new iPhones. The speed of saving and converting to DNG has also been improved, and the filter brush bug and spot removal tool have been fixed.

Both updates are free, the first for Lightroom 5 users, the second for Photoshop CC and CS6 users. Lightroom is available starting at $9 as part of an Adobe Creative Cloud subscription, as well as a free 99-day trial.

Additionally, through Black Friday, Adobe is offering a subscription to Creative Cloud Complete, which includes Photoshop, Illustrator, access to the Adobe cloud, ProSite web portfolio, Typekit fonts for web and desktop, and 28GB of cloud storage, for $20 per month through Black Friday. .
