News from the world of applications

Foursquare goes among chatbots with Marsbot (24.)

In recent years, the possibilities of virtual assistants have been constantly expanding and the ways of two-way user interaction with the software are increasing. Chatbots are not completely new in this field, but they are becoming more prominent recently. They allow their creators to make money from advertising, and it can be nice for users to be able to ask them different things in natural language.

But Marsbot from Foursquare is not just a chatbot. It will not only respond to the user's questions, but will itself, based on their current location and preferences, offer them places to visit. Thus, while browsing a new city, a user may receive a message like: “Hello Marissa! After dinner at Burma Love, I like to go for a drink at the nearby Zeitgeist.'

Foursquare itself can do something similar, but it recommends places through, for some perhaps impersonal, notifications. The feeling of a more natural interaction with the software, rather than the ability to recommend places itself, is supposed to be the main reason for Marsbot's existence.

The Marsbot application is already available in the App Store, but so far only for a narrow circle of interested parties and for users in New York and San Francisco.

New applications

Morning Motivation wakes you up in the morning with a motivational quote

An 18-year-old student from Slovakia came up with an interesting application. He created an application with an alarm clock function, which he enriched with motivational quotes, which immediately after waking up will stimulate you to the whole day's activity. Morning Motivation, as the app is aptly named, has a great user interface and is easy to use. So if you have problems getting up in the morning to start a new day full of meaningful activities, be sure to try the application. You can buy it in the App Store for €1,99.

Lumibee or simple photo editing for everyone

A new application for editing photos called Lumibee was also created in the home environment. It is functionally not very different from other applications of this popular category, but the authors focused on its speed and user experience during its development from the beginning. According to them, they went through dozens of photo apps in the App Store and almost every time they felt that they needed a manual to use them to their full potential.

And that's why they started developing their own application. With Lumibee, they made sure that you don't get lost in the app and in the adjustments. So you have an overview of all the changes you have made and all the options are well described. In Lumibee, you won't find any vague icons that could mean anything.

The application is also distinguished by its unique cropping system, which allows you to see the maximum preview of the photo during the entire cropping period. You pay €2,99 for Lumibee in the App Store.

Important update

Twitter expands 3D Touch support

Twitter was one of the first applications to use the capabilities of 6D Touch technology on the iPhone 3s. However, now with an update to the application comes even wider support for this convenience, through the peek and pop gestures.

Thanks to this, iPhone 6s and 6s Plus owners can call up previews of tweets, Moments and attached links to websites, images, GIFs, etc. with a light press. A deeper press will then open the given link in the relevant application such as Safari or YouTube. Thanks to the special peek and pop gestures, you can also access functions such as muting or blocking the user, reporting a tweet and the ability to continue working with the tweet via the share button.

For a long time, the application also supports the ability to call up quick shortcuts by pressing the icon on the home screen deeper. Quick actions here include writing a new tweet or new direct message and searching.

The Workflow app adds new actions

Workflow, an iOS application for creating and running automated action chains, is probably one of the most significantly updated apps in the App Store. The transition from version 1.4.5 to the latest 1.5 thus adds 22 new actions, a search field and brings a redesigned environment for creating automations (Workflow Composer).

New actions include creating and editing Apple Music playlists, searching iTunes and the App Store (for example, the user can receive notifications with a list of application updates) and automatic actions within popular applications Trello a Ulysses. In addition, each added action has dozens of variations and, of course, combinations with all the others.
