A few weeks ago, Apple let us know that in one of the upcoming updates of the iOS operating system, we will find a function that will tell us exactly how much the battery in our iPhone is worn out and whether software throttling of the processor is turned on. With this step, Apple responds to a huge wave of indignation against non-transparency, which accompanies the whole case regarding the slowing down of iPhones. Now it has been revealed that this new iOS feature will enable something else. Users will have the option to turn off so-called throttling (i.e. targeted slowing down of the processor).

Tim Cook mentioned this upcoming feature during an interview with ABC News. A developer beta that will include these software tweaks will arrive in about a month. These news will be released to the public version of iOS later. This update will not only include monitoring software that will check the health and life of the battery. There will also be an option to ignore iOS settings and let the processor run at maximum frequency, increasing its performance (in case the processor was limited).

Users will thus be given the choice of whether they want to use the maximum performance and potential of their device, despite possible system instability. Apple will not recommend this setting by default, as it compromises the comfort of using the iPhone. Sudden system crashes definitely do not please the user. However, it will be interesting to test how frequent these crashes will be given the state of battery wear. Apple will not lose anything by this step, on the contrary, it could please a lot of users. Especially those who want to wait until Friday to change the battery.
