We've already written a lot about the new maps in iOS 6, so everyone knows what the problems are with them. However, Apple faced the whole case when Tim Cook v official statement admitted that the new Maps were far from ideal and advised users to use competing maps.
The reaction of the executive director of the Californian company comes after a huge wave of criticism that fell on Apple after the release of iOS 6, which also included the new Maps application from Apple's workshop. It came with very low-quality map materials, so it is often completely unusable in some places (especially in the Czech Republic).
Apple has now acknowledged through Tim Cook that the new Maps do not yet reach such qualities, and advised dissatisfied users to temporarily switch to a competitor.
to our customers,
at Apple, we strive to create first-class products that guarantee the best experience for our customers. However, we didn't quite stick to that commitment last week when we launched the new Maps. We're very sorry for the frustration we've caused our customers, and we're doing everything we can to make Maps better.
We launched maps already with the first version of iOS. Over time, we wanted to offer our customers the best possible maps with functions such as turn-by-turn navigation, voice integration, Flyover and vector maps. In order to achieve this, we had to build a completely new map application from the ground up.
The new Apple Maps is currently used by more than 100 million iOS devices, and many more are added every day. In just over a week, iOS users have searched for nearly half a billion locations in the new Maps. The more users use our Maps, the better they will be. We greatly appreciate all the feedback we receive from you.
While we're improving our Maps, you can try alternatives like Bing, MapQuest and Waze z App Store, or you can use Google or Nokia maps in their web interface and look at them on the desktop of your devices create a shortcut with an icon.
At Apple, we strive to make every product we create the best in the world. We know that's what you expect from us, and we'll work around the clock until Maps meets the same high standard.
Tim Cook
Apple CEO
Steve Jobs made a great choice. It's a huge mistake, but a small-minded director will approach it like this.
You're absolutely right. At first I was really angry - that Jobs would not allow this - when he knows that they are not 100% like the product - but hats off to him for taking this approach.
and at the same time, the maps are not so bad.. it navigates beautifully for me, no problem yet..
Nobody complains about the navigation, it works well... The problem is more with the quality of the satellite images and the insufficient detail of the classic map.
Well, well, the navigation is great.
But it's nice that Cook recommended us some apps. At least we know what to compare their maps with ;o)
fingers crossed for them
DUDE! So he has my absolute respect.
Where can I send feedback?? :) I would like to write something to them :)
On the bottom right of the map, "raise" the roll and tap on Report a problem. Then the options differ depending on whether I'm in satellite maps or not.
This is a problem report, but I want to give them some positive feedback :)
With Apple, at least one can be sure that I am really working on the problem. When I had a Bada, Samsung was not able to fix the non-functional GPS or native applications for fb and twitter in a year...
woouuuu I take my hat off
That's really a "dude". I, on the other hand, think that he had nothing else left and should have come up with it earlier.
And voice integration.. I have an iP4, so it doesn't concern me. Likewise, navigation from the view above the road.
No no, in this case I'm taking it for granted. I'm seriously curious how long it will take for them to be the best maps in the world..
who will buy me an iPhone? :( :D
Everyone makes mistakes, but the most important thing is to face them head on. I admire Apple and so do Tim Cook!
Hats off to Cook, but most of all hats off to all of you for taking bad news so beautifully! :D
I wouldn't be so tolerant. That's the management alphabet. They've gotten into trouble, and now they're trying to get out. Have you ever experienced the most ordinary shopkeeper who, when he understood that he really has nothing for you, sent you to the competition? They didn't know that the maps weren't much since the beta version. The problem is probably at the end of the contractual relationship about maps with Google. So either a fatal project error or strategic games with Google that are not communicated.
