Apple announced yesterday that it will be holding its first special event of the year on May 7. Of course, it will revolve around iPads, but they are generally in the background, and the company is more interested in accessories for them. And it's strange.

Apple takes invitations to its events very seriously and only rarely indicates what they will be about. But yesterday he really blew it. Paradoxically, they are not targeting iPads, which are therefore expected the most from the event, but rather accessories for them. It is quite surprising that Apple openly shows a product in a note like this, in this case the Apple Pencil. If you also look at the pages Apple.com, you can see six variants of the logo on them, which are drawn with the company's stylus.

Tim Cook is also directly appealing to his new generation, through his post on the social network X. So he did it quite funny, when the text of the post reads "Pencil us in for May 7," thus translated into Czech: "Sign us up for May 7." The text is also supplemented with a pencil emoticon. The strange thing is that the company hasn't introduced iPads for a year and a half, and instead of them it's tempting to use accessories, which without them make no sense in themselves. But it is quite possible that it will be a complete redesign in such a way that it really deserves such attention. Or, of course, it's purely about marketing, because tablets aren't doing very well, and so Apple wants to build up a clear hype about the interest in the event, which it will hold rather unconventionally already at 7 in the morning (in our country it will be at 16:00 p.m.).

What to expect?

According to the rumors so far, Apple should introduce both new models of iPad Air and iPad Pro. While the 6th generation iPad Air will feature the M2 chip and a larger 12,9-inch display size for the first time, the new iPad Pros will be powered by the M3 chip and feature OLED displays as well as a reportedly thinner design. In addition, there are also reports that Apple has developed a redesigned Magic Keyboard that will make the iPad look more like a traditional laptop with its combination.

Although Apple already offers three models of its Pencil, we are still waiting for its full-fledged 3rd generation. It could get control options like press, long press and double press. Thanks to these different variants, the stylus could then provide three different actions without you having to select or switch anything in the given application. This is, of course, a clear improvement over the current double-tap.

You can replace the tips of the Apple Pencil now, but only if the original one wears out somehow. With another, you will not get any extra functionality. However, the 3rd generation Apple Pencil could offer several easily replaceable tips, where they would be held magnetically in the stylus and their replacement would be very easy. There could also be several of these nibs, each of a different thickness depending on how you need to work with the Pencil.
