Alongside iOS 12.3 Apple also released the new watchOS 5.2.1 today. At first glance, the minor update is quite significant for us - the update makes the application for EKG measurements available in the Czech Republic and Slovakia on the Apple Watch Series 4.
The Czech Republic thus joins the long list of nineteen European countries where the function is available. Along with the Czech Republic, ECG measurement is now also available for users in Slovakia, Poland, Croatia and Iceland.
While EKG measurements can only be enjoyed by owners of the latest fourth-generation Apple Watch, older models of Apple's smart watches can warn of irregular heart rhythms after the update. The second mentioned function is also now available in all five countries mentioned above. Along with that, watchOS 5.2.1 fixes a bug that caused numbers on the Traveler watch face to disappear in some cases.
Compatible Apple Watch owners can download the new watchOS 5.2.1 in the app Watch on the iPhone, specifically in the section My watch, V In general -> Software update. In the case of the Apple Watch Series 4, an update of 136 MB needs to be downloaded.
What's new in watchOS 5.2.1:
- The ECG app is now available on the Apple Watch Series 4 in the Czech Republic, Croatia, Iceland, Poland and Slovakia
- Irregular heart rhythm reporting is now available in the Czech Republic, Croatia, Iceland, Poland and Slovakia
- Fixed a bug that caused numbers on the Traveler watch face to disappear for some users
And how is it with the availability of watches that enable this function? Of course I mean the official channels.
It's going great, you need to update your phone as well
I can't get it to activate, maybe the problem is that I have an AW4 from Japan?
I also have an Apple Watch 4 from Japan (and an iPhone X from the Czech Republic), I will try it out tonight. I'm a little worried that we'll have to wait for the ECG to be available in Japan though - and considering Japan's red tape and Apple's neglect of the local market...
I thought it was region related not hardware related...let me know
So I called Apple Support to ask why my EKG is not working with the watch I bought in Korea and was told that it will work when they turn it on in Korea. I tried to somehow argue that for the watch bought in the Czech Republic it was enough to go to Austria first, but the lady probably didn't understand or couldn't confirm that. So I assume that all watches bought in the Asian region will have the same problem, while watches bought in Europe should be fine.
