Apple has won another major architectural award for the construction of the stunning glass Apple Store in Istanbul, Turkey. The so-called "Glass Lantern" is located in the Zorlu Center shopping mall and was declared by the judges to take glass building technology to a completely different dimension. The Istanbul Apple Store received the highest award in this year's special category Structural Awards 2014.

The store in Zorlu Center is the first Apple Store built by the company Foster + Partners, also behind the construction of Apple's new campus in Cupertino. It is also a completely unique and unprecedented building. The California company's new campus resembles a spaceship and is scheduled to be completed in 2016.

The Apple Store in the center of Zorlu is a truly unique cubic building made of glass, in which you will also be captivated by the wonderful staircase made of solid glass plates anchored into the glass walls. The natural light that flows into the store from the outside through the glass profile of the building and a perfect view of the various surrounding skyscrapers will also guarantee you a unique experience when shopping in this Apple Store.

The four glass walls that form the body of the building are essentially invisibly joined with a special silicone, which differs from the iconic Apple Store on Fifth Avenue, where the joints of the glass elements are clearly visible. The roof, which is made of carbon fiber, is also unusual. In addition, a shallow pool surrounds the building to complete the atmosphere.

The new Istanbul Apple Store received awards for excellent engineering work as well as excellent design solutions for the retail store. There is one more brick-and-mortar Apple store in the city. It is located in the shopping arcade Acacia.
