If you haven't heard of DuckDuckGo, it's an alternative Internet search engine that competes with Google or Bing. Among other things, one of its strengths is the fact that it does not track users and their behavior for monetization and provides a service for browsing within the site. This function is used, for example, by John Gruber's well-known blog, Daring Fireball.

In iOS 8 and OS X 10.10, Apple enabled the choice of DuckDuckGo as the default search engine, so the news about it is also relevant for Czech users of Apple devices. Newly, DuckDuckGo enables "instant answers" for four new languages, including Czech. Quick answers are similar to information cards in Google, where after entering a certain phrase, in addition to relevant links, a separate card appears with basic information about what you entered into the search engine.

DuckDuckGo obtains information from more than 100 different sources, in the Czech version, however, Wikipedia is dominant. The service claims it can provide up to nine million responses. In addition to Czech, German, French and Polish have also been added, and Russian and Spanish are also planned for the future. So if you're impressed with an alternative to Google that doesn't track you, now you can also use it for quick answers about search phrases.
