Last week saw the unveiling of the third generation iPhone SE. As is customary with Apple, the SE model combines an old tried-and-tested body with modern technologies, which has proven itself very well in recent years. Even before the presentation of the news itself, there was a brief speculation that the phone would come in the body of the iPhone Xr. But that didn't happen in the final, and once again we have the iPhone SE in the body of the iPhone 8. However, Apple is facing considerable criticism for this.

Although the new iPhone SE has a modern Apple A15 Bionic chip and 5G network support, unfortunately it is also equipped with an old display with poor resolution, a worse camera and, according to some, an insufficient battery. When comparing the technical specifications with the competition from Android, it then looks as if the iPhone is several years behind, which is also somewhat true. Something else plays an important role in this. Despite these shortcomings, the legendary SE model is still extremely popular and the number one choice for many people. Why?

For the finish line, the flaws are immaterial

The most important thing is to realize who the iPhone SE is actually intended for, or who is its target group. It is clear to us from the experience of the users themselves and a number of media that it is primarily children, older and undemanding users, for whom it is crucial to always have a fast and well-functioning phone. The iOS operating system also plays an important role. On the other hand, these can do without a top-notch camera or perhaps an OLED display. At the same time, the SE model represents a great opportunity for those looking for a (relatively) "cheap" iPhone. On the contrary, someone who cannot do without the mentioned components will definitely not buy the phone.

When we think about it in this way, design goes to the side in practically every way and plays the so-called second fiddle. It is precisely for this reason that this year Apple also bet on the form of the iPhone 8, which, by the way, was already introduced in 2017, i.e. less than 5 years ago. But he added a newer chipset, which among other things powers the iPhone 13 Pro, and support for 5G networks. Thanks to the powerful chip, he was also able to improve the camera itself, which is driven forward by the software form and computing power of the device. Of course, the Cupertino giant has a very well calculated potential of the phone itself, including its rather archaic design, which we are unlikely to encounter on today's market.

The fourth generation with a newer design

Subsequently, the question arises whether the upcoming (fourth) generation will bring a newer design. When we take into account the age of the body itself and look at phones from competitors (in the same price category), we realize that a radical change must come. It is necessary to look at the whole situation from a broader point of view. Although I personally would much rather see the iPhone SE in a modern body (iPhone X and later), in theory it is still possible that Apple will not change the design anyway. Currently, we can only hope that this will not happen. Fortunately, the new generation will not come until 2 years at the earliest, during which the mobile phone market can be counted on to move several steps forward again, which could force the Apple company to make a final change. Would you welcome a 4th generation iPhone SE with a more modern body, or is it not that important to you?
