The green giant from the swamp Shrek, his equally green Fiona, the crazy donkey and Puss in Boots, these are familiar characters since 2001 when Dreamworks created the first part of this successful and popular film. But a good 2 years have passed since the last part, and for those who can't wait for the next part, which is to be released in 2010, the gaming giant Gameloft has prepared a great racing arcade called Shrek Kart.

As I already mentioned, the game will be racing-oriented, so don't expect any jumping that you might recognize from PC or consoles. Shrek Kart is strikingly similar to the highly successful Crash Bandicoot Nitro kart 3D so far in the Appstore. Even after more than a year, the game still has a good 48th place in Top Paid Apps, so it was a great idea to forge something similar.

But let's look at the game itself
The game opens with a nice video that introduces us to the game's story, which certainly won't be, and isn't, very far-fetched for such a game genre. The menu offers us a choice of a total of four options: Single player, Multiplayer, Options and Help.

Single Player
In this part, we have the choice of driving a fast track for a time in which we can choose from a total of three difficulties. The second icon is the Tournament, where you will gradually race and with your victories unlock new characters that you can ride with later. Each of the characters has different driving characteristics, which the creators thought up nicely. You will also unlock championships (four in total), each of which has a few levels, which together create a nice pile of circuits that will occupy more than one cold autumn evening.

The next item is "Arena" where, as the name suggests, you will ride in a closed arena, collect boxes with weapons and try to catch as many accurate hits as possible. And as the last option in the single item is "Challenge" where you have to perform various tasks such as collecting balls, avoiding barrels with explosives, etc.

Multiplayer
Multiplayer creators have really worked out what it means that you can connect to your friends via Wi-Fi but also via Bluetooth. Up to 6 players can play (wi-fi) or two (BT), which you and your classmates will certainly appreciate in boring lectures.. :)

Options
The settings offer us to adjust the volume of music, sounds, etc. which you are probably used to from other games or applications, so it probably won't interest you. However, accelerometer non-lovers will surely be interested in the option to turn off the accelerometer control and reset it to finger touch control. Here, however, I discovered the bad location of the touchpads, which complicate turning and braking at the same time.

The next and last option in the Options item is the language setting, which offers us a total of six languages, but Slovak or Czech are missing.

Help
Although this item is the last, beginners should start right here, you will learn how to control your "checker" and thanks to a nice description you will easily and quickly understand the principle of game modes.

Verdict
The final verdict of Shrek Kart is positive and it will certainly be for you if you are a fan of this green monster. The game has extensive game modes and a great multiplayer, which definitely overtakes its biggest competitor in the AppStore, Crash Bandicoot, in terms of size and, last but not least, the price. The downside is poor control when using touchpads (braking) and a weaker choice of weapons, which may be improved by a possible game update.
