This year, Apple also significantly improved its Safari web browser across its operating systems. Just as last year, when developing the new version of Safari, the company again placed great emphasis on the security and privacy of users, but Safari in the iPadOS 15 operating system also offers a number of other novelties. In this article, we'll take a look at what these new features look like in the iPadOS 15 developer beta.

Better display

Among the novelties that everyone will notice at first glance in Safari in iPadOS 15 is a change in the overall appearance. The Safari app window now occupies a much larger area of the iPad, while the content of individual web pages now has much more space and looks significantly better. The address bar has a new, more compact look, from the hideable sidebar you can access anonymous browsing, bookmarks, reading list, history and shared content.

Card groups

Among the novelties that Apple introduced to Safari in its new operating systems is the ability to create so-called tab groups. To add a card to the group, just long press the address line, or click on the icon with three dots on its right side, and select the desired item in the menu. A new empty group of panels can be created by clicking the tabs icon in the sidebar of the browser window. You can name the panel groups you want, and they will always be synchronized across your devices.

Customize appearance

When Apple introduced its macOS 11 Big Sur operating system last year, it introduced richer options for modifying the appearance of the start page in the Safari browser. In some ways, Safari in iPadOS 15 is very similar to Apple's macOS version of the web browser, and it's no exception in this area. If you tap the "+" on the right side of the Safari window in iPadOS, you'll see options for the home page. You can determine what elements appear on the Safari start page, add a background image, or perhaps set this start page to sync across all your devices.

Extension

Many users used various extensions for the macOS version of the Safari web browser. However, this option has unfortunately been missing for the iOS and iPadOS operating systems until now. A welcome change came with the arrival of iPadOS 15, which will finally also offer support for extensions in Safari. Safari extensions can be downloaded from the App Store, where these add-ons have their own separate category. This category has not yet appeared in the App Store on iPadOS, but if you go to Settings -> Safari on your iPad with iPadOS 15, you may notice that the Extensions column has been added. If you click on the More Extensions button in this section, you will be redirected to the appropriate menu.
