Ever since Apple introduced its popular completely wireless AirPods, the bag has been torn with this type of headphone. Nowadays, it is no longer difficult to find high-quality wireless headphones, whether you are looking for clear sound, comfortable phone calls or use for sports. And it is with headphones that are intended for sports that the Dutch manufacturer Philips came up with - specifically, they are headphones with the designation TAA7306. You will learn how the product performed in practice in the following lines of text.

Official specification

Headphones from Philips boast the most modern Bluetooth 5.0 standard, but this is practically a matter of course these days. They also already have a standard frequency range from 20 Hz to 20 kHz, thanks to which Philips promises that both deeper and higher frequencies will be enjoyed to the maximum in all songs. The music will be transferred to your ears by drivers with a diameter of 9,2 mm, and the headphones also boast an impedance of 16 ohms and a sensitivity of 105 dB. If we focus on codecs, we will only find SBC and AAC, as for Bluetooth profiles, the headphones are equipped with A2DP, AVRCP and HFP.

For athletes, it is extremely important that the product is not damaged by sweating. Philips guarantees IP57 water resistance for the headphones, which means that they are partially resistant to dust and particles entering the guts and to submersion in water up to 1 meter deep for 30 minutes. The product can also measure your heart rate, which you will see directly in the Philips Headphones app, with which you can also control the device. A very interesting function is cleaning in the charging case using UV radiation, so the product should always remain sterile. I will briefly touch on the battery life. The headphones will keep you happy for up to 6 hours on a single charge, the charging case will supply them with juice for a total of 24 hours of operation. The manufacturer also boasts that the headphones can play for up to 15 hour in 1 minutes of charging in the case. The dimensions of 7,3 x 5,3 x 3,5 centimeters and the weight of 80 grams indicate that this is no small product. The price of the headphones is CZK 4, thanks to our discount (see the end of the article), you can get them two thousand cheaper, i.e. for 2 crowns.

Above average packaging and plastic processing

After unpacking the rather large box in which the headphones are placed, you will find, in addition to the headphones themselves, a USB-C/USB-A charging cable, spare plugs, removable ear hooks and a soft carrying case that you can attach to a carabiner. It was the transport case that pleased me, because it is clear that Philips is targeting athletes and realizes that the charging box may not be able to withstand many shocks. If we focus on the construction of the headphones as such, they are a bit larger for my taste. But personally, it held very well in my ears, also thanks to the hooks that help with stability even during sharper movements. In the beginning, the headphones hurt my ears and head after wearing them for a long time, but in this case it is just a matter of habit. Of course, not everyone may experience this initial problem, but if you don't like large in-ear headphones, be careful.

What surprised me a little is the size of the charging case. It is really sturdy and quite bulky. But you have to be aware that there is a UV sensor in it, thanks to which the headphones remain sterile. As for the battery inside the case, thanks to it, the headphones can play for up to 24 hours when recharging, which is such a classic for today - however, due to the larger case, we could expect something more. The construction of the case is plastic and the question remains whether the body will be scratched after a short time. It is a shame that plastic was also used in the case of the hinge on which the case lid is held. If a metal hinge, which Apple uses for AirPods, for example, was used, the user would have a slightly better feeling when opening it. But you can forget about some simple breakage. The headphones must be placed precisely on the magnets to start charging. Sometimes you'll miss a hit, causing the headphones to not charge.

Pairing, controlling and using the application

The initial connection to the phone is classic and easy. You need to press the button on the charging case twice in a row, which will immediately show the headphones in the list of new devices. Control is done using the touchpad on both headphones, with a tap on the right earbud to pause and start music, a double tap to skip to the next track and a triple tap to the previous one. Use the pad on the left earpiece to launch the voice assistant with a long hold, tap and hold to set the heart rate. The surfaces are really large, so the control is relatively simple. But from time to time it happened that I caught my hair on it and thus paused or started the music.

The Philips Headphones application, available in the App Store, is clear and intuitive. It doesn't appear to be fully functional according to user reviews, but I haven't experienced any issues. Here you can see the battery charge status of the headphones and the case itself, it is also possible to activate the permeability mode. It's a bit of a shame that you can't turn it on even on the headphones themselves. You can even find data about your heart rate, which is certainly useful especially for athletes. However, it must be mentioned that of course you cannot count on absolutely accurate heart rate measurement. This is more of an indicative figure, but on the other hand, why not have it available. We've wanted heart rate measurement for AirPods for a long time, and Apple could be inspired here in a way.

What about the sound?

Since the product is labeled as a sports headphone, I expected Philips to emphasize the bass - and indeed it does. The hum of dance music, pop music or rap can really reliably kick you up and motivate you to perform better. Higher and mid frequencies are audible even through the bass component, as well as details. The Philips TAA7306 perform best in situations where you listen to rap or dance music and do sports at the same time. After all, these are sports headphones and they should excel in the field of sports music, which they definitely do. I will briefly touch on the quality of the throughput mode and phone calls. The microphones that the product has are sufficient for calls. The quality of the passthrough mode is not as good as the AirPods Pro, for example, but for headphones that are twice the price, this is a great performance in my opinion.

Conclusion and a discount of CZK 2

I have a very positive assessment of the Philips TA7306 headphones for how they fit in the ears, together with a larger number of sensors that you often don't find in the competition. I must not forget the perfect packaging, which is definitely above average and will please you. The battery life and sound are also great, which you will enjoy the most from these headphones when listening to sports music. What could be better is the processing of the charging case, which deserves at least a metal hinge for a better feel. If you often do sports, in addition to measuring the heart rate directly on the headphones, you will also appreciate the cleaning with UV radiation in these reviewed headphones.
