Apple and gaming don't quite go together. This has been more or less clear since the first ambitions of the Cupertino giant to create its own game console, which in the 90s of the last century became a complete failure. Since then, Apple has practically made no effort to enter this industry. In a way, he doesn't even have a reason to. Looking at the Mac family of products, it's clear what Apple is specifically targeting. In this case, they are simple and user-friendly computers with a focus on work.

Macs simply cannot be considered gaming computers. If someone is interested in gaming, then they are offered to buy a classic (sufficiently powerful) PC/laptop with Windows, or some game consoles. However, now a rather interesting idea is emerging among users, according to which the question is whether it is time to change this imaginary label. Therefore, let's now focus on why Apple has not yet tried to enter Macs in the field of gaming, and why it should now completely turn around.

Mac and gaming

Gaming on a Mac is something you can only dream about for now. Game developers completely ignore the apple platform, and more or less rightfully so. Until recently, Apple computers lacked the necessary performance, which is why they couldn't handle even simpler games. The whole problem is a bit deeper and mainly lies in the primary focus of apple computers as such. In terms of performance, they mostly offered an ordinary processor from Intel in combination with an integrated graphics card, which is severely inadequate for such purposes. On the other hand, really powerful Macs were also available. Their problem, however, was the huge price tag. The Mac family of products occupies only a minimal share of the market, and it is therefore pointless for developers to prepare their games for macOS, when in addition, a minimal percentage of Apple users with powerful Macs would be able to run them.

Although there are ambitions in the transfer of popular games to the macOS platform, especially on the part of the Feral Interactive studio, they are minimal compared to the competition. But now let's move on to the essential, or why Apple should reconsider the current approach. A complete revolution for Apple computers was brought about by the transition from Intel processors to Apple's own Silicon solution. Macs have improved significantly in terms of performance and efficiency, taking them to a whole new level. In addition, this change makes the new Macs noticeably wider. After all, this can be seen in various analyzes of sales in the computer segment in general. While other manufacturers are facing a decline in sales, only Apple managed to maintain a year-on-year increase despite all the adverse effects of the global pandemic and inflation. Apple Silicon was simply a shot in the dark that brings the desired fruit to Apple.

It's time to change your approach

It is because of the fact that Apple computers have improved significantly in terms of performance and have seen a general spread that it is time for Apple to re-evaluate its current approach. There are relatively simple ideas among Apple fans - Apple should establish cooperation with developers and game studios and convince them to optimize game titles for the macOS platform (Apple Silicon). After all, the giant is already trying something like this in the case of its own Apple Arcade service. It works on a subscription basis, which gives you access to an extensive library of exclusive games for iPhone, iPad, Mac or Apple TV. The problem, however, is that these are simple indie titles that will only entertain children.

But in reality, the question is whether the hopes for the arrival of gaming on the Mac are not just empty pleas. In order for Apple to overcome this fact, it would have to come up with a fairly fundamental step that would cost it a lot of money. It can all be summed up quite simply. There are no games for macOS, because there are no players either, who logically prefer platforms where such a problem does not exist. But that doesn't mean that something like this isn't realistic at all. As it recently turned out, Apple was seriously considering buying the gaming giant Electronic Arts, which could be the first and decisive step to change.
