Last week, we saw the presentation of the expected Apple Watch Series 7, which was rather disappointing for many Apple fans. Almost the entire apple world expected Apple to come out with a redesigned watch with a completely new body this time, which, by the way, was predicted by a number of sources and leakers. In addition, they talked about a similar change long before the actual launch of the product, and therefore the question is why they absolutely did not hit the mark this time. Did they have the wrong information all along, or did Apple change the design of the watch at the last minute because of this?

Has Apple chosen a backup plan?

It is literally surprising how the reality differs from the original predictions. The arrival of an Apple Watch with sharp edges was expected, whereby Apple would once again unify the design of all its products a little more. The Apple Watch would thus simply follow the look of the iPhone 12 (now also the iPhone 13) and the 24″ iMac. So it may seem to some that Apple reached for a backup plan at the last minute and thus bet on an older design. However, there is a catch to this theory. However, the most significant innovation of the Apple Watch Series 7 is their display. It has been completely redesigned and has not only received increased resistance, but also smaller edges and thus offers a larger surface area.

It is necessary to realize one thing. These changes in the display area are not something that can be invented, figuratively speaking, overnight. In particular, this had to be preceded by a long part of the development, which of course required some funding. At the same time, there were earlier reports that suppliers encountered complications in the production of the Apple Watch, with a new health sensor to blame, according to the original report. Mark Gurman from Bloomberg and Ming-Chi Kuo, for example, quickly responded to this, according to which the complications are, on the contrary, connected with the display technology.

So what happened to the "square design"

So it is possible that the leakers were going about it all along from the wrong side, or that they were deceived by Apple itself. In addition, three options are offered. Either the Cupertino giant tried to develop a watch with a revised design, but abandoned the idea a long time ago, or was only looking for new options for the Apple Watch Series 8, or it just skilfully pushed all the information about the redesign to the right people and let the leakers spread it.

It is also necessary to point out one rather important thing. Although Ming-Chi Kuo himself mentioned a long time ago that this year's generation will see an interesting redesign, it is necessary to realize something. This leading analyst does not draw any information directly from Apple, but relies on companies from the supply chain. Since he already reported on this possibility earlier, it is possible that the Cupertino giant only ordered prototypes from one of its suppliers, which could be used for testing in the future. This is how the whole idea could have been born, and since it would be a relatively fundamental change, it is also understandable that it spread extremely quickly on the Internet.

When will the desired change come?

So will the Apple Watch Series 8 arrive next year with the expected sharper-edged design? Unfortunately, this is a question that only Apple currently knows the answer to. Because there is still a chance that leakers and other sources just slightly skipped time and completely missed the current generation of Apple watches. So this means that a model with a redesigned body and a number of other options could come next year. Currently, however, we have no choice but to wait.
