At Apple's September event, you might not have been drawn to iPads, or even iPhones, but rather to the new Apple Watch. But now the question is whether to wait for the Apple Watch Series 7 to go on sale later this fall, or to go straight for the previous generation in the form of the Series 6. Take a look at the full comparison of these models and it will (maybe) be clear to you. Although Apple teases a new generation of smart watches on its website, it does not indicate when they will be available, does not include them in comparison with older generations, does not provide any technical specifications about them, as well as the price. Here we are based on the available information that has appeared on the Internet and which, if necessary, was provided by the company itself.
Larger and more durable case
When Apple introduced the first generation of its Apple Watch, it had case sizes of 38 or 42 mm. The first change occurs in the Series 4, where the dimensions have jumped to 40 or 44 mm, i.e. those that the Series 6 currently has. The new model will increase by one millimeter. Keeping the same width of the straps and their clamping mechanism, the case will be 41 or 45 mm. Our colors also change. Only blue and (PRODUCT)RED red remain, from space gray, silver and gold on the Series 6 to green, starry white and dark ink.
The Apple Watch Series 3 was already waterproof, when the company advertised it as suitable for swimming. It states that it is 50m water resistant, which also applies to all subsequent generations, including the Series 7. However, Apple redesigned the cover glass for this one, thanks to which it claims that this generation is the most durable Apple Watch to date. It therefore offers resistance to cracking, and the entire watch can then boast IP6X dust resistance certification. The change in size also has an impact on the weight of the watch (not much is known about the reduction of the case yet). The aluminum version weighs 32 and 38,8g respectively, which is an increase of 1,5 and 2,4g respectively compared to the Series 6. The steel version weighs 42,3 and 51,5g, the previous generation here weighs 39,7 and 47,1 g. The titanium version of the Apple Watch Series 7 should weigh 37 and 45,1 g respectively, for the Series 6 it is 34,6 and 41,3 g. However, the availability of the steel and titanium variants is still largely unknown.
Bigger and brighter display
The aluminum version of the Apple Watch Series 6 features Ion-X glass, an Always-On Retina LTPO OLED display with 1000 nits of active display, which is the same specification that the Series 7 will offer. The difference is that the older model has bezels of 3 mm, the novelty has frames of only 1,7 mm. Apple states here that it was able to enlarge the display by 20%. It also mentions the fact that it is up to 70% brighter than in the previous generation. How it achieved this when the display specification is the same is not yet entirely clear.
Same battery but faster charging
The Apple Watch was always supposed to last the entire active day of its user. In addition, the company also states the durability, which is the same in both cases - 18 hours. You can charge the Series 6 and its 304mAh battery to 100% in an hour and a half. We don't know the capacity of the Series 7, but it can be estimated that it will be the same. However, thanks to the included cable with a magnetic connector on one end and USB-C on the other, Apple claims that 8 minutes of charging will be enough to track 8 hours of sleep. It also mentions that in 45 minutes you will charge the watch to 80% of the capacity of its built-in lithium-ion battery.
Same performance, same storage
Each generation of Apple Watch has its own chip. So even though there is an S7 chip in the Series 7, according to all available information it looks like it is actually the same as the S6 chip included in the Series 6 (the fact that Apple did not mention the chip at all in the keynote adds to this). Changes could occur at most in its dimensions with regard to the change in the size of the case. We have already seen a similar strategy with the S5 chip, which was practically just a renamed S4 chip. Up to the S6 brought about 20% more performance than the previous generation. In a leaked company document, it is also said that the new S7 is 20% faster than the chip in the Apple Watch SE. And they are currently using the S5 chip, so we really don't expect an increase in performance here. The storage remains unchanged at 32 GB.
Just a little extra feature
If we do not count the differences in the watchOS 8 system, Series 7 will offer little news. With the exception of special dials that use a larger display to the maximum, it is actually just an automatic recognition of a fall from the bike. Apart from that, they offer automatic detection of exercise suspension. Otherwise, the list of functions is the same. So both models can measure blood oxygenation, offer a heart rate monitor, ECG measurement, have an accelerometer, gyroscope, compass, U1 chip, W3 wireless chip, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n 2,4 and 5 GHz and Bluetooth 5.0.
Likely price
The Czech prices of the Series 7 have not yet been published. However, during the event, Apple mentioned the American ones, which are the same as in the case of the previous generation. It can therefore be judged that it will be the same for us. Most likely, the Series 7 will copy the price of the Series 6, which is currently 11 CZK for the smaller 490mm case and 40 CZK for the larger 12mm case. What will happen to the previous generation after the official launch of the Series 290 is the question. Apple can make it cheaper, but it can completely remove it from the menu so as not to cannibalize the newer and more advanced model, which seems more likely. Apple Watch Series 44 and Apple Watch SE still remain in the offer.

It is interesting how the author's preferences are reflected in the article. When iPhone displays got bigger, it was seen as a great change. Here the display is bigger by 50% compared to AW3 and 30% compared to AW6 and "nothing interesting". I think the actual experience will be dramatically different. Sure - it's probably not a reason to exchange for the previous generation, but a reason to buy for those who don't have an AW yet.
You have the percentages somewhat confused
And what about the pressure measurement?
I was also looking forward to this function, unfortunately it is not in AW7.
