I would normally have an iPhone review of the Pocket Informant app ready for you at this time, but I've decided to postpone it for about two weeks. Pocket Informant was meant to be an excellent organizer for the iPhone, for which we have all been waiting for a long time, but for now it is not.
I must say that I really like the weekly report, for example, as well as a lot of other things, but there are a lot of bugs and little things throughout the application that I think should have been fixed in version 1.0. For example, in the monthly view, it is not possible to change the first day of the week to Monday, which is a real inconvenience.
As for the ToDo manager, it will definitely be Pocket Informant's weak link for some time. User experience is not possible with a specialized application such as for example Things, to compare. I'll probably only use Pocket Informant for a while as a better calendar, not to organize my whole life.
But the biggest problem I see is how slow the whole application is. Pocket Informant was expected to be RAM intensive, but with such a slow application, they can succeed on a platform like Windows Mobile, not the iPhone, where people are used to a certain standard.
So why didn't I just review and download Pocket Informant? Because I still believe in him, I still hope that at least the basic things will be sorted out. Already on March 27, Alex should be sent to the Appstore another version of Pocket Informant for iPhone, in which they will fix at least the basic flaws and the entire application should speed up. It won't be anything major, as overall optimization is planned for later in development, but I could definitely feel better about it. To buy or not to buy? Pocket Informant is temporarily $12,99, later it will be priced at $19,99, so it depends on whether you trust this app or not. Personally, I would probably wait..
I've gotten a lot used to the combination of iCal + Things — http://www.culturedcode.com/things/ — + Today — http://secondgearllc.com/today/ — on the Mac and iCal + Things on the iPhone. Among other things, Things will replace the absence of ToDo on the phone, and thanks to Today, I can see everything again on my work machine.
I'm in the same situation on the iPhone and I would welcome some improvement of the calendar. Things didn't convince me somehow on the computer. I don't know if it seems a bit prominent. But I especially don't like the way of synchronizing with the iPhone - there is no back button or simple option, you have to go to the settings. In short, I prefer to draw it straight to the iPhone. And I'm thinking about a replacement.
Jablickar: The display of "clicked" images is still not the best (I mean the mobile version, the classic iPhone version was worse). Do you plan to do anything about it? If possible, etc. if it's worth bothering with.
jablickar: As far as I know, autosync works when running Things on a computer (when running on an iP). Things only make sense on a computer if they are always running, so they start right after the system starts up, and I never have Things on my iP. In addition, at first I had a problem with the fact that Things did not find my iP on the computer at all (even after the update), which lost the initial moment of "delight".
jablickar: So I've tried all possible combinations and the sync doesn't work for me. Finally, I went to Things->Preferences->iPhone and tried it manually and... try, it says Waiting for Things on your iPhone or iPod touch... but nothing. Well, what would you say to that? I tried restarting Things on the computer, turning both on and off, but somehow it doesn't work. It will probably start working again sometime, but even if the software was free, with such experience, everyone would think twice. There may be a problem with the Wi-Fi network. But right now I have both devices connected with a cable and they still can't communicate. It is sad.
@Jablickar Likely - it runs all the time on the laptop and syncs every time it starts on the phone. I got used to it and I don't miss websync at all.
jablickar: I know, I just wanted to say that I have everything connected and it doesn't want to go anyway. Of course, it is on a common Wi-Fi network. Well, after a couple of restarts, I finally managed to sync it, so kudos, but unfortunately I'm not excited. So that I don't blame the SW completely - I suspect a problematic WiFi router, and as soon as the two devices do not see each other at one specific moment (starting up and asking for presence in the Things framework), they simply do not sync. Oh no. I would like to buy a Time Capsule, it would replace my problematic Ovislink router (at the same time quite good), but it costs a lot of money. I probably won't defend it internally.
