The case of Paper vs. Paper grows with more Paper. The developers of the app called with one word have now also commented on the new application from Facebook and the subsequent objection of the development studio FiftyThree paper. In the word that FiftyThree is fighting so much with Facebook, even though it itself does not have a clear conscience…

It all started with the introduction of Facebook's new app, which is called Paper in its full name Paper - stories from Facebook. Against that they immediately fenced in FiftyThree, they are said to have come up with their application Paper by FiftyThree much earlier and are calling on Facebook to change the name of its app. All on the basis that the social network used a very common word that appears in the App Store in the names of dozens of other applications.

This challenge is most likely not going to be successful, and it shows that FiftyThree is being completely hypocritical here. As the developers from miSoft behind the application revealed paper, they also faced a similar problem. And everyone ignored them too. They describe their story directly in the app description in the App Store:

When we started working on a clean and simple drawing app, we decided to give it the most basic name, Paper.

We followed Apple's rules, which meant logging into our Developer account and creating a "Paper" app. The name Paper was assigned to us by Apple because NO ONE ELSE was using it.

While we were working on the app for a few months, other apps called "Paper" started popping up. How is it possible? Due to errors in Apple's system. A developer can add additional words to an unavailable name, or register a non-US account, create an app with the same name as an existing US app, get it approved for sale outside the US, and then change regions and have it sold in the US as well !

MiSoft claims to have been the first in the App Store with the word Paper and, like FiftyThree now, didn't like it when other developers came up with apps with the same name. Like now FiftyThree was trying to do something about the situation but he was powerless.

We pointed out these errors to Apple at WWDC 2012. Well, the next day, the app "Paper", one of those that added more words to the word Paper to be sold in the US App Store, received an award. We felt kind of taken advantage of.

Back at WWDC, we met with the creators of this other Paper application, told them our story and offered a discussion to solve the whole thing. Later we even sent a letter to their CEO. Nothing. So we considered our options.

Now we see this other "Paper" app upset that an even bigger company also chose "Paper" as the name of their app, using the same trick of adding more words to the end.

It must have come as a real surprise to miSoft that FiftyThree is hypocritically objecting to Facebook's actions, although it has behaved itself as an arrogant studio that doesn't care about the complaints of others some time ago. It would be a big surprise if Facebook behaved differently. At least they will be able to feel a little satisfaction in miSoft.
