Along with the 2nd generation Apple TV 4K Apple also introduced a redesigned Siri controller Remote. However, despite the new design, it lacks a few sensors and technologies that users might really miss. Except ultra-wideband the chip does not contain an accelerometer or a gyroscope. You would use the U1 chip in the controller if you lost it somewhere in your home and were trying to locate it using the Find It app on iPhone 11 and later. However, it is not a function that is directly dependent on the capabilities of the controller, which is supposed to provide the most important thing, i.e. control. However, because it is intended for Apple TV, i.e. environment control tvOS, it must also be taken into account when controlling installed applications and of course also games.

Better control, less technology

The new Siri Remote looks quite different from its previous generation. It has an aluminum body and a so-called clickpad, which replaces the trackpad for gestures in tvOS. Apple also added a power button and a mute button. That for activating the Siri voice assistant then moved to the right side. As the magazine noted Digital Trends, with the exception of the design change, the included technologies were also used. The controller no longer has either an accelerometer or a gyroscope.

However, the previous controller had these sensors to give you interesting gaming experiences. So you could tilt it as needed and perform specific actions as is possible on the iPhone and iPad. Whereas the tvOS supports Xbox game controllers and Playstation, it seems that Apple has abandoned the idea that gamers will want to use its controller in some way and that they are not reaching for a full-featured solution. If you happen to own the original Siri Remote, is the one with the new Apple TV 4K compatible. But you can no longer buy it separately.

Custom game controller

Before the spring event itself, there was also lively speculation that Apple could introduce its own game controller, which would be its tvOS tailored. Of course, it is not excluded that we will see it sometime in the future, but with the improvements that the new Apple TV 4K brought, it cannot be judged too much that the company has any big "game" plans for it. Yes, it serves what it is intended for, and games (i.e. Apple Arcade) are just a bonus feature that Apple TV does not and probably will not. Why? The A12 chip is to blame. It was introduced in the iPhone XS and XS Max, and while it's still powerful enough now, it certainly won't be any more soon. Smart boxes Apple moreover, they are not introduced every year, so if it were to be replaced in four years, as it was now, by then even mobile games will be at such a level that the current machine can barely handle them. So if you want a game console, definitely don't look for Apple TV.
