Apple at WWDC in June introduced a new version of your computer operating system - OS X 10.9 Mavericks. Since then, Apple developers have regularly released new test builds, and now the system is ready for the general public. It will be completely free to download.

Several new applications come with Mavericks, but significant changes have also taken place "under the hood". With OS X Mavericks, your Mac is even smarter. Power-saving technologies help get more out of your battery, and performance-enhancing technologies bring greater speed and responsiveness.

Namely, these are technologies such as combining timers, App Nap, saving mode in Safari, saving HD video playback in iTunes or compressed memory.

Also new in Mavericks is the iBooks application, which has long been familiar to iPhone and iPad users. The Maps application, also known from iOS, will also arrive on Mac computers with the new operating system. Classic applications such as Calendar, Safari and Finder were also updated, where we now see the possibility of using panels.

Users with multiple displays will welcome much better display management, which has been a rather annoying problem in previous systems. Notifications are also handled better in OS X 10.9, and Apple created iCloud Keychain to make entering passwords easier.

Craig Federighi, who introduced OS X Mavericks once again at today's keynote, announced that a new era of Apple computing systems is coming, in which the systems will be distributed completely free. Virtually anyone can download OS X 10.9, regardless of whether they have the latest or an older system such as Leopard or Snow Leopard installed on their Mac.

Supported computers for OS X Mavericks are 2007 iMac and MacBook Pro; MacBook Air, MacBook and Mac Pro from 2008 and Mac mini from 2009.
