One of the novelties of the third-generation iPad is the possibility of Internet sharing, i.e. tethering, after all, we already know this function from the iPhone. Unfortunately, we will not be able to enjoy it in Czech conditions yet.
Tethering does not work automatically, it must be enabled by your carrier by updating your network settings. The user then downloads the update in iTunes. Vodafone and T-Mobile enabled tethering in the case of the iPhone relatively quickly, only O2 customers had to wait a long time. The operator made an excuse about "evil" Apple, which does not want to allow him to share the Internet. However, few people believed this story. In the end, the customers were waiting and they too can share the Internet.
However, the tethering function of the new iPad does not yet work with any of the Czech operators. We therefore asked them for their comments:
Telefónica O2, Blanka Vokounová
"In the iPad, there is no Personal Hotspot function, enabling tethering, nor was it in the previous model.
I would recommend contacting Apple directly for a statement."
T-Mobile, Martina Kemrová
"We are not selling this device, we are still waiting for test samples to test this functionality, among other things. However, with the iPhone 4S, which at the SW level is quite similar to the iPad, tethering works normally, it should not be blocked at the network level."
Vodafone, Alžběta Houzarová
"At the moment, the supplier, i.e. Apple, does not allow this functionality to be used directly throughout the EU. We therefore recommend directing the inquiry to their representative."
Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC),
He did not comment on our question.
We did a little research after foreign discussion forums and it seems that only the Czech Republic has a problem with iPad tethering. We find exactly the same situation in Great Britain, where internet sharing does not work with any of the operators. The issue is speculated to be related to 4G network support.
We mentioned earlier that According to the frequency specifications, LTE in the iPad will not work in European conditions. For now, Europeans will have to make do with a 3G connection, which, by the way, is significantly faster with the new model than with previous generations. Some users believe that Apple only made tethering available on 4G networks for their device and forgot about 3G. This would explain why sharing does not work in the Czech Republic and other European countries. If this is indeed the case, it will be enough for Apple to release a small update that will enable Internet sharing for 3rd generation networks as well.
And what do you think? Is this a bug in iOS or is the fault on the part of the Czech and European operators?
Well, I am sure that the fault is definitely not on Apple's side, according to the Czech Apple website.
"
iPad, your personal hotspot. Now you can share your iPad's high-speed data connection for the first time. If your carrier supports it, iPad can act as a personal hotspot to connect up to five devices—such as a MacBook Air, iPod touch, or another iPad—via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or USB.
"
Where is probably the most interesting sentence:
"If your carrier supports it, the iPad can act as a personal hotspot to connect up to five devices..."
So I think it's clear.

Personally, I have no problem believing that Apple is up to something, but the O2 or T-mobile scams seem so awkward it hurts.
Operators will horribly claim that the problem is on the manufacturer's side, while they themselves are aware that the site settings need to be updated. Yes, it's probably a lot of work, it's not just doing nothing and charging money for it.
I don't know where the mistake is, but I rather believe in the unresponsiveness of the operators. It is clear that it potentially takes away their income. And if I take O2 itself, it will block this function until it is unavoidable, if only because they did not agree with Apple even on the sale of their products. They are the biggest squealers.
Tethering is quite stolen from me. Unfortunately, I have another problem with my new iPad and I'm not alone. 3G stops working when one leaves the wifi network. Then a soft reset is enough and everything runs until I get on wifi again. There is quite a discussion about it here https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3819552?start=0&tstart=0 I hope this is just an iOS issue. I don't want to take it to the complaint.
I don't have a problem with Wifi, BUT if I'm in a place with weak 3G network coverage and my IPAD switches to EDGE and then back to 3G, I'm in the same situation as you
I don't have any of the above thank goodness ;)
I have that problem too. And then don't even stick to the hotspot from the iPhone. I connect, but the data does not flow, although it works fine on the iPhone. Somehow the internet from the operator is simply disgusting to him, while at home it works without a problem on Wi-Fi from the cable company.
I don't know, but it works normally for me, that is, only with 3g, but it works. I have an oerator 02 and on the weekend I connected normally with ntb via the personal hotspot function, it worked normally.
Well, using an iPhone or a new iPad?
hard, I tried all three sims of our great operators :) I'm really curious how long it will take them..
Well, why should operators allow tethering when they sell "advantageous" tariffs for phones and others for tablets. They're all about profit, aren't they? :D
So the red starts and there is no sign of tethering at Vodafone. They promised me several times on odafone support that their technicians would get back to me within 4 hours, but as always, nothing. So we have to let our taste buds get the better of us, we live in CR.
Unfortunately, it doesn't work like that on my iPad2 with the Tmobil operator. The APN field is blank and typing "internet" makes no difference
