You may remember last year's frenzy caused by the watch company Swatch. The latter, in collaboration with the Omega brand, which belongs to the Swatch Group, has released an affordable series of MoonSwatch watches, referring to the first watch that looked at the moon. Now releasing their new and noticeably more exclusive version of the MoonSwatch Mission To Moonshine Gold, Apple could clearly take inspiration here.

MoonSwatches were a definite hit last year. Some condemned the company for dishonoring the legacy, others had really long queues for this watch, with many still not getting it. They are waiting for online availability, which is still not coming. Swatch sells these watches exclusively in its brick-and-mortar stores, where, for example, there is not a single one in the Czech Republic and you have to go to Vienna or Berlin for them.

The queues thus moved from Apple to Swatch stores. These were crowds of hundreds of people who wanted these bioceramic battery-powered watches at a price of around 7 CZK just because they refer to the legend and have the classic manufacturer's logo on the dial. However, it was not a limited series, so you can still buy them today, although even today you have to go to the store to do so. However, it is true that on the secondary market they are no longer sold at multiple prices, but only at a decent markup.

A year later, Swatch will try to feed off that success a little more, albeit to a limited extent. Today, from 19.00, the sale of the novelty, i.e. The Omega × Swatch MoonSwatch Mission To Moonshine Gold, starts. The problem is that, again, only in brick-and-mortar stores, and only selected ones, i.e. in Tokyo, Zurich, Milan and London. As you can tell from the name, the exclusive here will be gold, specifically its alloy, which consists of 75% gold, 14% silver, 1% palladium and 9% copper.

But only the chronograph hand is present from this material, otherwise it is a classic MoonSwatch version of the Mission to Moon watch with some extra certificates. The price will increase only slightly, by 25 Swiss francs to a total of 275 CHF. It is almost certain that there will be quite a commotion in front of these four stores today as no one knows how many watches are available and if they will continue to be produced like the classic line.

Even Apple tried it with gold on watches. His very first ones were also available in variants with a gold case and worth several hundred thousand CZK. However, the company soon realized that it had overshot, and therefore a similar situation never happened again. She only tried it with ceramic and titanium (even before the Apple Watch Ultra). However, the situation with Swatch by Apple could have given rise to an interesting idea.

Apple Watch is the best-selling watch in the world. However, if we are talking about classic watches, no watch sold more than the MoonSwatch series last year. If Apple wants to revive its smartwatch, it doesn't have to come up with any crazy ideas. We do have the Hermès edition here, but it's the straps that stand out. However, if the Apple Watch only had a gold crown, Apple could clearly distinguish them from the standard versions, make them exclusive and raise their price tag accordingly. They would certainly find their buyers even if he made them limited edition.
