Every day, in this column, we will bring you a more detailed look at a selected application that has just caught our attention. Here you will find applications for productivity, creativity, utilities, but also games. It won't always be the hottest news, our goal is primarily to highlight apps that we think are worth paying attention to. Today we're going to introduce you to Skitch, an application for taking and editing screenshots.

Wondering why you should download a dedicated app for taking and editing screenshots on your Mac when hotkeys and the native Preview app will do the same job? Skitch is an application from the creators of the popular Evernote platform. Full integration with this application is a matter of course. Skitch also allows basic editing, such as cropping, and annotations, such as adding arrows, shapes, text or stamps, without the need to first take the screenshot itself and then open it in the appropriate application. It supports PNG, JPEG, TIFF, GIF, BMP and PDF formats.

Personally, I use Skitch for occasional editing of individual screenshots, I especially appreciate its speed and fairly rich options. If you are in the habit of editing multiple screenshots at once, Skitch will disappoint you because it only allows you to work on one screenshot. If I need to resize multiple screenshots for example in an article gallery, I use bulk editing in the native Preview. On the other hand, Skitch's advantages include its free service and the already mentioned integration with Evernote. Unlike Preview, Skitch also allows pixelation of the selected area. With Skitch, you can conveniently and quickly take a screenshot of the entire screen as well as a specific selection, there is also an option to take a timed screenshot.

In conclusion, we can say that Skitch is quite a handy tool for taking and editing screenshots, but it is clearly intended primarily for the basic needs of rather undemanding users. Skitch is also available for iOS devices.
