Although last week we saw the presentation of the brand new iPhone 13 series, there is already speculation about its successor. Well-known leaker Jon Prosser specifically started the speculation even before the last keynote. He allegedly saw the prototype of the upcoming iPhone 14 Pro Max, according to which some really interesting renders were created. To make matters worse, the most respected analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has now joined him with some really interesting information.

A change that apple growers have been calling for for several years

So at the moment it looks like the change that apple growers have been calling for for several years will come relatively soon. It is the upper cutout that is often the target of criticism, even from among the users themselves. The upper cut-out, which by the way hides the TrueDepth camera with all the necessary components for the Face ID system, has been with us since 2017, specifically since the introduction of the revolutionary iPhone X. The problem, however, is quite simple – the notch (cut-out) has been it hasn't changed in any way at all - that is, until the introduction of the iPhone 13 (Pro), whose cutout is 20% smaller. As expected, 20% is simply not enough in this regard.

However, Apple is probably aware of these hints and is preparing for a relatively big change. The next generation of Apple phones could completely get rid of the upper cutout and replace it with a hole, which you may know from competing models with the Android operating system, for example. So far, however, there has not been a single mention of how the Cupertino giant wants to achieve this, or what it will look like with Face ID. In any case, Kuo mentions that we should not count on the arrival of Touch ID under the display for some time yet.

Shotgun, Face ID under the display and more

In any case, there was information that, in theory, it would be possible to hide all the necessary components for Face ID under the display. A number of mobile phone manufacturers have been experimenting with placing the front camera just below the display for some time now, although this has not yet proven successful due to insufficient quality. However, this would not necessarily apply to Face ID. This is not an ordinary camera, but sensors performing a 3D scan of the face. Thanks to this, iPhones could offer a standard hole-punch, retain the popular Face ID method, and at the same time greatly increase the available area. Jon Prosser also adds that the rear photo module will be aligned with the body of the phone at the same time.

In addition, Kuo also commented on the front wide-angle camera itself. It should also receive a relatively fundamental improvement, which specifically concerns the resolution. The camera should be able to take 12MP photos instead of 48MP photos. But that's not all. The output images will still offer a resolution of "only" 12 Mpx. The whole thing will work so that thanks to the use of the 48 Mpx sensor, the photos will be significantly more detailed.

Don't count on the mini model

Earlier, the iPhone 12 mini also faced sharp criticism, which did not fully fulfill its potential. In short, its sales were insufficient, and Apple found itself at a crossroads with two options - either to continue production and sales, or to completely end this model. The Cupertino giant probably solved it by revealing the iPhone 13 mini this year, but we shouldn't count on it in the following years. After all, this is what analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is mentioning even now. According to him, the giant will still offer four models. The mini model will just replace the cheaper 6,7″ iPhone, probably with the designation Max. The offer would thus consist of iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Max and iPhone 14 Pro Max. However, how it will turn out in the final is unclear at the moment anyway.
