Apple has introduced the next generation of its iPad, which does not belong to the Pro series, but surpasses the basic model in all respects. So here we have the iPad Air of the 5th generation, which on the one hand does not bring much new compared to the previous one, on the other hand it borrows the chip from the iPad Pro and thus gains unprecedented performance.

In terms of design, the 5th generation iPad Air is the same as its predecessor, although its color variants have changed slightly. The important thing is that instead of the A14 Bionic chip, we have the M1 chip, that instead of the 7MPx front camera, its resolution jumped to 12MPx and the Center Stage function was added, and that the Cellular version now supports 5th generation networks.

So Apple has improved the iPad Air evolutionarily, but compared to the previous generation, it does not bring that much new. Of course, it depends on each user whether he can feel the increase in performance during his work, as well as whether a 5G connection or better video calls are important to him. If the answer to all questions is negative, there is no point in switching to the new product for owners of the 4th generation iPad Air.

iPad Air 3rd generation and older

But it is different with the 3rd generation. It still has the old design with a desktop button and a 10,5-inch display. In the following models, the diagonal was increased to only 10,9 inches, but they already have a new and pleasant "frameless" design with Touch ID in the power button. The shift here is also drastic in the performance of the chip, or the rear camera, which was only 8 MPx before. You will also appreciate the support for Apple Pencil 2nd generation. So, if you own any iPad Air older than the 4th generation, the novelty certainly makes sense for you.

Basic iPad

After all, this also applies to the basic iPad. So if you bought the last generation of it, you probably had your reasons for doing so, and it may not be on the agenda to replace it right away (perhaps because it also knows how to center the shot). But if you own any previous generation and are looking for a new one, this year's iPad Air should definitely be on your shortlist. But of course it's about the price, because the 9th generation iPad starts at ten thousand, while you pay CZK 16 for the new model. It is therefore necessary to consider whether the Air is really worth the money compared to the basic iPad.

Other models

In the case of iPad Pros, there is probably not much to deal with, especially if you own last year's generation. If, however, you are the owner of a previous one and you do not fully use their potential, you do not need to spend immediately on, for example, the 11" iPad Pro, which now costs CZK 22 (the 990" model starts at CZK 12,9).

Then there's the iPad mini. Even its 6th generation can center the shot, and it is equipped with a great A15 Bionic chip. In terms of design, it is based on the 4th generation iPad Air, so it is actually a very similar device on the outside, only with a smaller 8,3" display. It also supports 5G or has support for the 2nd generation Apple Pencil. So, if you own just his and you are comfortable with a smaller size, there is nothing to worry about. But if you own one of its previous generations and want a larger display, you won't find a better alternative than the newly introduced iPad Air. In addition, the iPad mini 6th generation is only two thousand cheaper than the new iPad Air 5th generation.
