The latest version of the iPad Air has been with us since September 15, 2020, i.e. less than 17 months. So Apple has finally decided that it's time to update the hardware, and that's exactly what happened, because just a few moments ago, Apple introduced a brand new iPad Air 5.

iPad Air 5 specifications

The new 5th generation iPad Air brings a whole new level of performance thanks to the 8-core Apple M1 processor, which offers more than 60% more CPU performance than the previous generation. The graphics performance is up to twice as high compared to the previous generation, and at the same time it is noticeably higher than classic notebooks or tablets with Windows in a similar price range. All this while maintaining very compact dimensions and low weight. The M1 processor also includes a 16-core Neural Engine. Thanks to the new hardware, the new iPad Air is an ideal device for gaming, for example. The new Air will offer a Retina display with high brightness (500 nits) and an anti-reflective surface.

On the front, we can find an improved 12 MPx camera with support for the Center Stage function, which is already offered by all current versions of iPads sold. In terms of connectivity, the novelty will offer support for ultra-fast 5G, at the same time the speed of the USB-C connector has increased noticeably (up to 2x). The new product naturally supports all possible peripherals such as keyboards, cases (via Smart Connector) or the 2nd generation Apple Pencil. In terms of software, the new iPad Air can take advantage of all the features and options that the current version of iPadOS 15 offers, including a completely new version of iMovie with support for story-boards. The novelty contains a whole range of components that come from fully recycled sources, including parts made from rare metals. The new iPad Air will be available in a total of five color variants, namely blue, gray, silver, purple and pink.

iPad Air 5 price and availability:

The prices of the new product will start at 599 dollars (we will find out the Czech prices immediately after the keynote), and users will be able to choose between variants with 64 or 256 GB of internal memory. WiFi and WiFi/Cellular options are also a matter of course. Pre-orders for the new iPad Air will start this Friday, and sales will begin a week later, on March 18.
