At its traditional September keynote, Apple presented the 2nd generation Apple Watch SE, which applied for the floor alongside the Apple Watch Series 8 and Apple Watch Ultra. It is therefore a successor to the cheaper Apple Watch, the aim of which is to offer the best price/performance ratio. The first series celebrated a fairly decent success, and that is why it is interesting to see what the giant comes up with in the case of its successor. Therefore, let's shed some light on the comparison of Apple Watch SE 2 and Apple Watch SE together.

Design and display

In terms of design, no changes await us. With the new Apple Watch SE 2, Apple has bet on a timeless design that simply works and has its fans. The new series is specifically available in a version with a silver, dark ink and starry white case, and again it is available in two versions, respectively with a 40mm and 44mm case. The first generation Apple Watch SE was available in silver, gold and space gray. During Apple's presentation, it compared the new cheap watch with the Apple Watch Series 3 and pointed out that it offers a 30% larger display in this comparison. Of course, when compared to the previous generation Apple Watch SE, the display size is the same.

The display remains the same not only in terms of size, but also in terms of its capabilities. The display still offers up to 1000 nits of brightness, but unfortunately it lacks the always-on feature found on the Apple Watch Series 8 and later. This is one of the compromises allowing the lower price of the cheaper "Watches". We must also not forget to mention the lower cover of the case, which is made of nylon composite and thus matches the color. Although it is not such a fundamental change, we can consider it a certain improvement.

Features and performance

In principle, one could say that the Apple Watch SE 2 is still the same watch, but we can still find some interesting news. In addition, the new Apple Watch lacks, similar to the always-on display, some important health sensors that we would find in the regular Apple Watch. Specifically, there is no sensor for measuring the ECG or blood oxygen saturation. Of course, the sensor for measuring body temperature, which is exclusive to Apple Watch Series 8 and Apple Watch Ultra, is also missing. Even so, the new watch received an interesting novelty. The Apple Watch SE 2nd generation comes with a function for automatic car accident detection. Apple also promises a 20% higher performance compared to the previous generation. The Apple S8 chipset beats inside, which, by the way, is also found in the new Series 8.

Although the new generation of cheap Apple watches does not bring much news, it is still a great model for undemanding users. Thanks to the watchOS 9 operating system, a wide range of various functions is offered, including, for example, monitoring of physical activities, heart rate, the possibility of paying through the Apple Pay payment method and others. The possibility of family sharing is also offered. Another interesting novelty is the low consumption mode. It will work in a similar way to our iPhones, when it specifically turns off some unimportant functions to save energy, which can significantly extend the endurance itself. The stamina itself does not change anyway. Apple promises 2 hours of battery life for the Apple Watch SE 18, as with the previous generation.

Summary

As we mentioned above, the new Apple Watch SE 2 series does not bring much news with it. Practically, we only find automatic car accident detection and a more powerful chipset with them. Well-known functions that were already missing in the first generation are simply missing here (EKG, blood oxygen saturation, always-on). But this does not mean that it should be a bad model. In terms of price/performance ratio, it is a first-class model that unlocks a number of possibilities and makes your everyday life noticeably more pleasant.

In addition, the new Apple Watch SE 2 was discounted on the Czech market. The basic 40mm version costs only 7690 CZK, the version with a 44mm case costs 8590 CZK. If you would like to pay extra for a model with Cellular connectivity, you will need an additional CZK 1500. At the same time, the first generation of cheap Apple watches started at 7990 CZK.
