How to remove the background from a photo on iPhone is a procedure that many users are looking for. Until now, if you wanted to remove the background from a photo, you either had to use a graphic editor on your Mac, or you had to download a special application on your iPhone that would do it for you. Of course, both of these methods are functional and we have been using them for several years, in any case, it could definitely be a little simpler and faster. The good news is that in iOS 16 we finally got it and removing the background from a photo is now extremely simple and fast.

How to remove background from photo on iPhone

If you would like to remove the background from a photo on an iPhone, or cut out an object in the foreground, it is not difficult in iOS 16. This new feature is available right in the Photos app and uses machine learning and artificial intelligence. Again, it is a more demanding matter, but in the end it offers really high-quality results. So the procedure is as follows:

  • First, you need to go to the app on your iPhone Photos.
  • Subsequently you open a photo or image, from which you want to remove the background, i.e. cut out the object in the foreground.
  • Once you do so, hold your finger on the foreground object, until you feel a haptic response.
  • With this, the object in the foreground is bounded by a moving line that moves along the perimeter of the object.
  • After that, all you have to do is click on the menu that appears above the object Copy or Share:
    • Copy: then just go to any application (Messages, Messenger, Instagram, etc.), hold your finger in place and tap Paste;
    • Share: the sharing menu will appear, where you can immediately share the foreground view in applications, or you can save it to Photos or Files.

Using the above procedure, it is therefore possible to remove the background from a photo on your iPhone and to copy or share the foreground section. Despite the fact that the function uses artificial intelligence, it is of course necessary to choose such photos in which the eye can distinguish the foreground from the background - portraits are ideal, but classic photos also work. The better the foreground is distinguishable from the background, the better the resulting crop will be. At the same time, it is important to mention that this feature can only be used by Apple users with an iPhone XS and later.
