With the iPhone 12, Apple expanded the portfolio of newly introduced smartphones to four. But no one wanted the mini version of the iPhone, so Apple tried the opposite, with the iPhone 14 it introduced the Plus version, which is also represented in the iPhone 15 series. But no one wants them either.

I mean, it won't be so terrible, but compared to other iPhone models, it simply sells the worst. This is not surprising either - just because of the larger display and battery, the customer pays much more (for the iPhone 15 vs. iPhone 15 Plus it is CZK 3), when he usually says that he would rather save money and reach for the basic 000 " model, or on the contrary, they will already pay extra for the Pro version (iPhone 6,1 Pro starts at CZK 15). This situation is not unique. Similar smartphones simply do not work anywhere.

The same is true of Samsung, which, however, only offers three models in its flagship Galaxy S line. There is the basic one, the Plus model and the Ultra model. Looking at last year's Galaxy S23 flagships, by the end of November 2023, almost 12 million units of the Ulter, 9 million of the base model and just under 5 million of the Galaxy S23 Plus had been sold. Canalys 2023

Now the company Canalys has published its estimates of the number of the best-selling smartphones in the world in 2023. The first rank belongs to the iPhone 14 Pro Max with 34 million units sold, with one million less sold to the iPhone 15 Pro Max. So it fits the trend that customers want to pay for the best. After all, Samsung in its own press release regarding the new Galaxy S24 series, he said that the Ultra dominated pre-orders at 61%.

The third best-selling smartphone last year was the iPhone 14, followed by the iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 13. Only then is the first Android, the Galaxy A14, which does not even have 5G. It is clear that it was a bestseller especially in the developing market. However, the TOP 10 also features iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15, i.e. Apple's September news. Any Plus version didn't make the list because it simply doesn't reach those numbers.

iPhones with the Plus moniker therefore do not work like other lightweight Plus smartphones or even the earlier iPhone mini model. In the basic line, customers have a hard time accepting screens other than 6,1", and it might make sense to say goodbye to the larger model, or at least give it something extra to make it more interesting. Because it's more expensive, Apple also has a bigger margin on it and it's in their interest to try to push it more. But when we heard the latest rumors about shrinking its battery, maybe Apple will kill it itself by limiting it rather than improving it.
