Some units of the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus have been affected by a rather serious problem. However, this is not a bug in the system, but a hardware error called "loop disease", which causes problems with the speaker and microphone, and its final stage is the complete inoperability of the phone.

The error mainly affects older iPhone 7 and 7 Plus models. Initially, it is manifested by a non-functional (grey) speaker icon during a call and the inability to record a recording via the Dictaphone application. Another symptom is occasional system freezing. However, when trying to fix the problem by simply restarting the phone, the final stage occurs where the iOS loading gets stuck on the Apple logo and the iPhone becomes unusable.

The owner has no choice but to take the phone to the service center. However, even the technicians there often don't know what to do, since fixing a hardware error of this type requires a more advanced and sophisticated process, which ordinary services simply don't have the resources for. The main cause of the described problems is the audio chip, which has partially separated from the motherboard. A special soldering iron and a microscope are needed for repair.

Apple is aware of the problem

A foreign magazine was the first to report on the problem Motherboard, who obtained all the essential information from specialized technicians dealing with error correction. According to them, the problems appear with iPhone 7s that have been in use for a longer time, so the new pieces do not suffer from the disease (yet). But at the same time, as phones get older, more and more users are affected by the error. According to one of the technicians, loop disease is spreading like an epidemic and the situation is unlikely to improve. The repair takes approximately 15 minutes and costs the customer between $100 and $150.

Apple is already aware of the problem, but has not yet come up with a solution. It does not even offer customers a free repair as part of a special program, because in its opinion the error affects only a small number of users, which was also confirmed by a company spokesperson:

"We have had a very small number of reports regarding the microphone issue on the iPhone 7. If a customer has questions about their device, they can contact AppleCare"
