Many people report that iOS 4 does not run well on their iPhone 3G - slow responses, long loading of SMS, stuck system. Did iOS 4 really fail that well? But somewhere, it's just necessary to follow certain steps.

People with these problems often had their iPhone 3G jailbroken in the past or the system was already "broken" in some way. Now they are after installing iOS 4 iPhone 3G crashes and thinking about upgrading to iPhone OS 3.1.3. Is this really the best solution?

In the future, there may be a lot of apps that won't run on lower iOS than 4.0. The transition to this system is inevitable. In addition, it also brings several advantages that are simply useful, for example local notifications. But how to get out of it?

The solution is the so-called DFU restore. The word DFU is important. In this mode, everything in the iPhone 3G will be reinstalled from scratch and you will get rid of all problems. I have already given this advice to several people and so far everyone has confirmed that after that the iPhone 3G works exactly as it should.

Step by step:

1. Download iOS 4 for iPhone 3G.

2. Connect the iPhone 3G to the computer running iTunes.

3. Get the iPhone 3G into the so-called DFU mode
– Press the Power button for about 3 seconds
– Press the Home button for approx. 10s (still holding the Power button)
– Release the Power button and hold the Home button for another 30 seconds

4. DFU mode should be recognized by iTunes popping up with a message about restore mode and the phone should remain black. If the iTunes logo lights up on the phone with a USB cable, then it failed and you are only in Restore mode - in this case, repeat the procedure.

5. Now you can press ALT on Mac or Shift on Windows and click Restore. Select the downloaded iOS 4 and install it.

6. Now everything should be fine and the iPhone 3G should be at least as fast as it was with iPhone OS 3.1.3. iTunes will ask you if you want to restore the data from the backup (contacts, calendars, notes, photos...).
