Many people report that iOS 4 does not run well on their iPhone 3G - slow responses, long loading of SMS, stuck system. Did iOS 4 really fail that well? But somewhere, it's just necessary to follow certain steps.
People with these problems often had their iPhone 3G jailbroken in the past or the system was already "broken" in some way. Now they are after installing iOS 4 iPhone 3G crashes and thinking about upgrading to iPhone OS 3.1.3. Is this really the best solution?
In the future, there may be a lot of apps that won't run on lower iOS than 4.0. The transition to this system is inevitable. In addition, it also brings several advantages that are simply useful, for example local notifications. But how to get out of it?
The solution is the so-called DFU restore. The word DFU is important. In this mode, everything in the iPhone 3G will be reinstalled from scratch and you will get rid of all problems. I have already given this advice to several people and so far everyone has confirmed that after that the iPhone 3G works exactly as it should.
Step by step:
1. Download iOS 4 for iPhone 3G.
2. Connect the iPhone 3G to the computer running iTunes.
3. Get the iPhone 3G into the so-called DFU mode
– Press the Power button for about 3 seconds
– Press the Home button for approx. 10s (still holding the Power button)
– Release the Power button and hold the Home button for another 30 seconds
4. DFU mode should be recognized by iTunes popping up with a message about restore mode and the phone should remain black. If the iTunes logo lights up on the phone with a USB cable, then it failed and you are only in Restore mode - in this case, repeat the procedure.
5. Now you can press ALT on Mac or Shift on Windows and click Restore. Select the downloaded iOS 4 and install it.
6. Now everything should be fine and the iPhone 3G should be at least as fast as it was with iPhone OS 3.1.3. iTunes will ask you if you want to restore the data from the backup (contacts, calendars, notes, photos...).
Well, even though I did it via DFU restore, I still don't have push notifications there, is this possible? With GM fw I normally had.. I'm trying to download iOS4 again but not sure if that will fix anything.. :-\
And have you started any application that requires push notifications? Has an app ever asked you to turn it on?
So you were right.. It really starts in the settings only if some application requests it.. Now I will try what it does after downloading mails, etc.. I wonder if the speed will be as it should be..
Well, not yet, but I hope I won't be wrong when I say that last time when I installed the GM version, I saw it there right after the installation.. But I'll try it..
if I follow this procedure, all my data will remain, such as sms notes, calendar, etc... or the iPhone is empty...thanks Jakub....
iTunes will then ask you if you want to restore data from a backup.
Hello, I want to ask a question.
If I have an iphone 3gs jailbreak, spirit, how do I upgrade os 4? is it the same as on 3g? what about jailbreak? will it be possible to do something then? thank you in advance for any answer!
iBooks still drag like a snail on 3G. :(
Even on the 3GS.
I would like to ask how it is about preserving data in the iPhone 3G after uploading iOS4 and how is the backup of data performed in iTunes? ( contacts, applications, SMS, etc. ) thanks for the advice
The backup is performed automatically every time you connect the iPhone (or if you have automatic synchronization turned off, put Sync.. before the whole process.
The procedure works, and iOS 4 on 3G runs perfectly for me, it even seems faster...Cheers :-)
Unfortunately, I can't change the background. Lock screen only. 3g doesn't have this option? Thanks for advice. Otherwise, everything runs without problems.
3G does not have this option..
3G has this option, so at least I do, maybe it's because I have it jailbroken
Sooo, and I've already put some exchange, apps, and some music in there, and I have to admit that so far it's running differently than before.. So hopefully it will stay that way.. So far, I've noticed the biggest change in speed with contacts, I have there are about 350 of them and when I "spinned" it, it always jerked, so far it works much better.. Well, thanks for this article, it probably helped.. The last thing that I don't have loaded there yet is Navigon, but that I don't want it when the phone is running, but I hope that when I put it back there, it won't start again.. :-)
3G can't do that. I'm rather annoyed that orientation lock is not available :/
very important. thank you
well, I also have a problem with the installation of the new system, everything went well, only all the photos and pictures disappeared from my phone. I gave the option to restore from the backup, everything is fine, contacts, applications, notes, sms in the phone, only the photos are left, absolutely all of them have disappeared....:(
I haven't seen them before either. when I clicked on the photos, the application started and it said that it was updating (not synchronizing), but nothing happened for a long time, so I interrupted it and tried to access the photos via PC. So I saw them, but the order was mixed up and some of them even had the same names (but maybe this file is related to the fact that I exceeded 1000 photos and it did not add another place in the name and it goes to see if it starts again from scratch. Maybe the old ones are deleted) I tried to order the photos differently according to the name or date, and I finally worked out the order corresponding to the order of the photos. In the meantime, I tried again to open the photos directly with the iPhone and this time the "library was updated", only the order was confused, but then it was also rearranged, probably due to the collapsing of the folder on the PC (which I somewhat doubt was the case, but maybe it is) ... I may be describing it a little confused, but it should help you
So on 3G, I updated using DFU mode and everything looks fine so far and it's much faster than 3.1.3. And finally! QWERTY keyboard. By the way, it is not possible to get into DFU using the method described in the article on an iP 3G, even by accident.
I got there exactly by the procedure described in the article :) so I don't know and I've never done it and now it's cool for the first time :)
Unfortunately, I have to share my negative experiences and I am far from alone, see. some foreign forums, but also Czech.
During the restore, my iPhone froze at about 60% and nothing can be done with it. I tried restoring back to GM or 3.1.3. It didn't help.
Personally, I'm sorry, because instead of a faster iPhone, I just have an iBrick. :D
If anyone knows of a solution, pls let me know.
rev3al: You definitely don't have an iBrick, I did a lot of crazy things with an old iPhone 3G, I saw a million errors 1605,1601, XNUMX, different custom FW, jailbreaks, etc. and it always got caught somehow, mostly home + power for a few seconds was enough to turn it on and then connect to the PC and turn it on, or connect to the PC, turn it off and then YouTube to find IPHONE DFU and then restore. I dare to say that it is a pretty foolproof phone, because if you put it with a Nokia, then it's only for service.
Btw, can anyone advise on a working JB on a 3GS with an old boot rom? I have 3.1.2 and blackra1n there at the moment and I'm also thinking about trying ios4. Or any instructions on how to do it...
I'm wondering if I should throw restore, then update and then jb, or just update etc.
PS: for rejpals, I don't have a reason to download games from the net, but I definitely need applications that make my work easier (I need sbs)...
Hello,
so I upgraded the iPhone 3G to iOS4 and it was a blast :) everything without a problem, so I did the total restore, because I had a jailbreak here and there before, so that it wouldn't be slow. And now it works great :) I'm probably tired of the jailbreak by now :) somehow I can figure it out for me and at least it works great like this. So thanks for the tip.
So I have a localization bug, it says "yesterday" instead of "yesterday" in SMS :-)
Does the so-called DFU Restore and the entire procedure also work on the 3GS? Would this help for a cleanup and comprehensive reinstall. Thanks for the reply.
It works, you just need to download another iOS 4 (you can find it in the article about the release of iOS 4).
I can't delete messages in my email. Instead of the original DELETE, it offers me ARCHIVE. Does anyone know what to do with it? Thanks.
This is a new function for cooperation with Gmail (where messages are also not deleted normally, only archived).
Change your email account settings.
Ready for 3G, I was finally pleased with a proper Czech QWERTZ keyboard, but those who want QWERTY can switch it on too.
I've already done it several times exactly according to what you write here, but the advice is to restore it there, and on the iPhone iTunes display.-( I don't know what to do, please advise
Try to read the instructions carefully again, if you give the combination exactly as it is written... and then it is better to count the seconds :)
I had a problem with this a long time ago under XP, I read somewhere that vista, 7 or osx will fix it, and since I have a Mac at home, then everything started. So if you do it under XP, try some other computer with a different OS.
That's exactly how I do it :-)
After about 15 seconds of holding only Home, it jumps to restore on iTunes and in another 20 seconds or so on iPhone iTunes
And do you write iTunes about DFU? Anyway, try it anyway.. When the iPhone went into DFU mode, the screen remained black.. but in some OSes it was a little different, and to be honest, I don't remember my DFU restore, which was three weeks ago at all :)
iTunes itself does not write anything about DFU. I think it's called recovery mode or something. If the DFU is correctly activated, the iPhone screen does not light up AT ALL and the restore option pops up in iTunes (just click on it and Apple will take care of the rest, there is no need to download iOS and then drag it there via Alt).
Safari crashes after the update. Just go to https and an invalid certificate and confirm it, whoop and I'm out of Safari on the home screen.
hello, my phone won't turn on, everything went fine, except when I loaded the backup, the iPhone restarted and couldn't boot, there's an apple and under that the loading car (which doesn't start) and the iPhone and iTunes are dead
In that case, I recommend doing a DFU Restore again from the beginning..
yes, but somehow it doesn't go into the DFU mode anymore :( it's not, is there any other way to try to restore it? other than the instructions above? it just turns off and I hold it for 30 seconds and nothing starts
Adam: if the black screen remains, then that is theoretically correct :) .. try disconnecting the iPhone from the USB, turn it on, connect it to another USB and repeat the process (and check it really carefully, if you accidentally release the buttons when you don't have one)
Well, it did the same thing after a new restore... but itunes no longer crashes, so if I don't click on the bookmark in it, the application on the iPhone is needed, so what happens if instead of restoring the iPhone (backup) I just put a new iPhone, will the applications I downloaded then run? probably yes if it's just one account? I have the list saved on google, so it might work? the chicken will set it up :-D
and it's cool :) and fast as lightning :)
So it seems to me that iOS4 is even faster than 3 on 3.1.3G in the end
I'm starting to get the impression that fast app switching works as part of standard switching for native applications... and maybe the calendar opens so quickly that even on 2.2.1 it didn't work like that
it still works on 3G local notification, I thought it wouldn't affect 3G..so great
overall, this upgrade makes sense even for 3G
Does the 3G bluetooth keyboard work?? when the wallpapers no longer work
According to the latest information, it doesn't work, but I have no way to verify it at the moment..
Hi, can I ask please - what is the difference between "Restore" in iTunes and "DFU Restore". which is described here? I thought that restoring in iTunes is practically cleaned of all the bad things that got caught in the phone and then it's like new from the factory?!?!? Thank you very much.
No, it's not like that.. then I create some files on the phone.. DFU will take it from the floor :)
Yooo ahaaa. Thank you very much. Just one more stupid question - isn't it somehow against the "Apple Rules" and is it legal?
It is completely legal, this procedure is often applied by services, because the average user does not know it.
Does a voice appear in iTunes where Restore is, or does it have to be DFR Restore? Thanks.
Is it possible to upload iOS4 to iPhone 2G in this way?
No, there is no iOS 4 for the iPhone 2G..
Once again, thank you very much, Jane. So I'm going to try it, because since yesterday all our devices at home have slowed down noticeably...
Does a voice appear in iTunes where Restore is, or does it have to be DFR Restore? – Thanks.
I probably won't perform a DFU Restore without a functional Sleep button, right? :-)
All you have to do is find a program that will put the phone into DFU mode (often these are jailbreaking tools).
So I don't have a problem, 3.1.3 and the update to 4 took a long time, but it's fine, the speed also seems good to me.
to: Jakub Krc, well, I don't think the message should be there. It also said only restore, I didn't get to the DFU message at all even after several attempts and after playing the phone in restore, the iPhone is really fast as a pig. :-) So, in my opinion, this message is probably edited directly in iTunes and it no longer says DFU restore but only restore. The main thing is that the screen remains black and the logo with the drawer and CD does not pop up, as it does during a normal update.
I'll also add a stupid question, because I'm still waiting for it, I don't have iOS4 downloaded yet. I have a 3GS and I would like a complete wipe via DFU. I already tried it once (it worked fine on 3G), but I didn't succeed - isn't the DFU procedure for 3GS different from that for 3G? I searched, googled, but all the instructions refer only to 3G and as I said, I once tried the same thing with a 3GS, then in a similar way, but it was always just a classic restore.
So does anyone have experience with a real DFU on a 3GS?
The same procedure as in this article also works on the 3GS.. maybe you tried the guide that was the drive, it doesn't work anymore..
Yes, the procedure is the same, only with 3Gs, iTunes does not give information about it, that the user is in DFU mode. It can probably only be recognized by the iPhone display - black = DFU, with an icon = normal restore.
So I confirm everything that is stated in the article! After yesterday's update, I didn't understand what happened to the iPhone. After applying this Jablickar instruction, everything runs noticeably faster and everything is as it should be again. Thank you :-)
Hello. Just to clarify. I restore to 3Gs, but iTunes does not give any information about DFU. I tried it about 10 times and it can only be recognized by the fact that the iPhone has a black screen on DFU restore and on classic restore, the cable and the iTunes icon are lit. Please correct me if I'm bullshitting :-)
So with that screen it should be true as I wrote - it applies to iPhone 3Gs. I quote:
How to put your iPhone in DFU mode :
Connect your iPhone to your computer.
Turn iPhone off.
Hold power and home together for 10 seconds (exactly).
Release power but keep holding home until the computers beeps (observed on a PC) as a USB device is recognized.
A few seconds later iTunes should detect your iPhone.
If the Restore Logo is present on the screen, you are in Recovery Mode, not DFU.
source link here: http://www.ihackintosh.com/2009/06/recovery-mode-and-dfu-mode/
My iTunes on the Mac reported that the iPhone was connected in recovery mode (or something like that) and that I had to perform a restore
Ah..but I'm talking about 3G and not GS..so nothing, how could I not be here :)
Yes it reports it every time. But with 3G, the message probably contains DFU, but not with 3Gs, and that's why it can only be recognized by the "black" screen on the iPhone. With icon and cable = normal restore and black = UDF restore...
Hello, I would like to ask how OS4 is going for you under 3GS, I updated it classically, and sometimes you can notice a minor cut, for example, when I go to the search area or in the settings, is this normal? Thank you for the reply.
It runs very fast for me, I don't notice the chopping.. try restarting the phone (turn it off / on)..
Thank you for the quick reply. Well, I tried, but the scan is still sometimes visible... :(
So now I'm playing with iP, after the restart it's not so visible anymore, but here and there I'm worried about a small twitch, is there a way to solve it? I didn't have JB before this… thanks.
just try DFU restore..
This was done before the update. So one more time?
Hello, you are obviously competent to advise me how it is with the manual download and installation, since it always ends with a voice saying that there is a problem with the site through iTunes...
I downloaded from the previous article from the link exactly 3G OS4 is zipped, what is the next procedure to install it, I know that the ideal is to do it via DFU restore, but I can't imagine that when I put the resource, I will choose this zipped file somewhere on the disk or it should I unzip and save the files somewhere?
Thanks for the quick reply,
By "restore from the floor" I meant the mentioned DFU in the discussion...
or how to do DFU restore?
Ok, I'll see, btw, I have to download that version of the OS separately, as it is written in the instructions above, or is it enough if I already downloaded it via iTunes?
it is necessary to download it separately, but not from the link in this article, but download the version for iPhone 3GS from the previous article..
So everything went according to the instructions, I think it went well, so far the data from the backup is pouring and I have one question related to the backup. What if I get a new iPhone and want to have everything in its place like in the old one? I back up the old one and then iTunes offers me to transfer this backup to the new iPhone? I mean something like Migration Assistant. Thanks.
to: Martin K, Yes it is possible. You connect the iPhone to the computer, turn on iTunes and put the phone as new. Then after logging in, when your phone is displayed on the right, right-click on the phone icon and select restore from backup, where you can select the old phone backup.
Dungeon thanks for the reply.
does multitasking work with 3G via this guide? or would I have to necessarily jb?
It would have to be JB..
I have 3G and it runs faster than before, but I can't get Skype to work.
do you have a new version?
I would like to ask if there is a way to find out the applications that I accidentally did not mark for backup... :-(
Fabulous tip. Thanks!
Here's a video comparison of 3G speed: OS4 not much - http://www.flickr.com/photos/adriannier/4724180371
I wouldn't believe that much, I'll wait until I see it with my own eyes :)
So I'd sign off on that... I've done a DFU and it looks the same to me. What bothers me the most is the slowness of the calendar that I synchronize with Exchange, on the old version of iOS 3 the updated one came up immediately, now on iOS 4 the calendar comes up and I see non-updated entries, then everything disappears and the current one appears... Horrible... I'm rather disappointed ….
Good day. I did a 'DFU' upgrade from 3G to iOS 4.0 late last night. Immediately afterwards, I didn't have time to check everything and went to sleep. I checked in the morning. And I must say that I am quite unpleasantly surprised. Although iTunes seems to have reset everything (on the opening screen I see a bar graph indicating uploaded applications, photos, music, and the free space is the same as before the upgrade), however:
- some applications will not open - MoneyDnes, iDBPro, Action Bowl, etc.
– the photo library is empty
- opening Phone, Contacts, SMS is noticeably longer - approx. 3 seconds - than in the previous version.
Maybe I did something wrong. Please advise me, someone, what to do with it? Especially iDBPro is vital to me. Thank you in advance for your help.
Zdenek
ugh and that's it, thanks a lot for the help, everything went smoothly, sleeps like clockwork
iPhone 3G, it really got faster, I don't know if it's the new operating system or the DFU mode
the prevalence of the whole opera probably helped
Thanks again for the step-by-step instructions :-D
SUPER!!!
THANKS FOR THIS ARTICLE. I ALREADY THOUGHT I WOULD GO BACK TO THE NOKIA 3310. JUST UNLOCKING THE iPhone WAS AS SLOW AS WHEN I RUN ON THE iMac G3, Mas OS X Tiger :-) AND RUN PHOTOSHOP.
I WILL TEST IT AT HOME RIGHT NOW.
THANKS APPLE FRIENDS!
I have such a mixed problem. Before installing iOS4, I reinstalled all of Windows and installed the new iTunes 9.2. From now on, I can't upload any apps or music. It just says that it is synchronizing, but not even N. So I tried to reinstall the system on the phone on the iMac (on the PC I did not succeed with any system. For 8 hours it said "in progress" but the thermometer did not move even a millimeter I was kind of hoping that reinstalling the entire system would help, unfortunately it doesn't work at all anymore) and now it's really slower and stuck, so maybe DFU restore will help. But you don't know why iTunes doesn't work on PC? Have you ever encountered something similar? Thanks for the reply.
I would like to ask the people here who has a 3GS... today I finally got home to be able to install iOS 4. Everything went well, but the GSM signal that I always had at home was full (5 bars), so now there are only 2 bars... all the settings are the same, I have no interfering objects around... I just put iOS 4 in my iPhone and the signal just got really bad...does anyone have an explanation? Thanks
So I'll just throw in my experience:
I have a 3GS, just to be sure I put it through DFU and over the line downloaded iOS4 because I don't have wifi handy and the mobile operators wouldn't let me download and update iOS the traditional way (via iTunes). In short, I was always cut off during the process (VF and O2) and it was impossible to follow up.
Everything went well, I have MacOS X 10.5.8. I chose the iPhone as a new mobile, without restoring the backup. During the first synchronization, I pulled up contacts and notes just fine, I had previously downloaded and deleted the photos, so nothing, of course the text messages were all gone, I expected that. I then had to re-set the upload of the necessary applications, songs, photos, clips, etc. in iTunes and organize those applications manually.
You can say that everything is OK and it runs faster. BUT ATTENTION - not the first time, it is necessary to turn off the device and turn it on again. For the first time, they can be ... I don't know what to call it - for example, in the address book, first names were bold and last names were thin, it was slower, etc. After a restart, everything was fine. And you probably need to click on the applications to start after installation, they may be slower the first time. The e-mail settings were done by themselves using iTunes, only through POP3 I had to endure and anoint hundreds of old e-mails. That is all.
Satisfaction.
I've had bad experiences with signal in general, so I can't judge the change, at least not yet - there hasn't been time. Otherwise, I would say that the iPhone is not very good at signal. I have a 3GS, formerly a 3G.
So I did a DFU restore, but it didn't help much :-(
My calendar takes a very long time to load, e-mails may still be working and the response when opening Pref. it is also quite long. In summary. iOS4 probably won't be for iPhone 3G. Hopefully you can fix it with some tithe update.
I am selling it.
today I tried iOS on an iPhone 3G at work and iOS 4 is definitely faster on 3G than the old OS.. only the open setting was longer..
I thought that there might also be a problem, that my IP 3G might not be able to handle everything I throw at it. I use a total of 5 calendars in Calendar, which are synchronized either with Mobile Me, iMac or exchange. That's why the Calendar probably takes about 10 seconds or more to load. I use one exchange account for mail, two others via IMAP and two via POP3. Mail after upg. turned out to be the best. Imap also downloads old emails all over again, and often even the entire application crashes. The SMS also takes quite a long time to open...about 5 seconds. Otherwise, the rest of the application works fine...does everything seem a bit slower for me? So scrolling through the lists is definitely a chore.
All this after DFU restore and restore from backup.
But I tell myself that if I do a DFU restore again and just set everything up again, it should be fine. You have everything in iCal, iPhoto, iTunes, Address Book and Exchange, so there is nothing to lose.
Anyway, thanks for the introductory advice with DFU restore.
:-)
For me, the best finding is that the Navigon pedals like clockwork without a GPS dropout. With OS 3.1.1.3 it was completely useless, the signal was still lost. Now it's a balm for the nerves, watching the lightning start of the application and GPS and work without the GPS signal dropping out
I noticed a localization bug in the calendar. On the lockscreen, the month is written as "June, July". But in the calendar in the monthly overview it is also in this form and it does not look very good….
Hello.. So today I connected my non-jailbroken iPhone to install the latest version of the update, OS 4. When I click on "Update", and after downloading, when I want to install it, I get a "backup". I tried it a second time today, and just like the first time, the same thing happened to me - the backup didn't complete, it didn't proceed at all, as if it didn't work, so I can't move on. :/ Does anyone know what to do with it? Thanks for the opinions.
The first time (before I put it through DFU) it took about 4 and a half hours :) take it easy... leave it overnight and go to sleep... in the morning you have a new fw...
I did JB on iOS4 according to this tutorial http://forum.iphone.cz/viewtopic.php?f=96&t=30330&start=0&st=0&sk=t&sd=a
I have 3G and first I'm 3.1.2. updated via iTunes to iOS4 and everything went OK. Then I did a JB and everything seemed OK too. However, with every outgoing call, an annoying window appears with the message Active call forwarding. Of course I did, I looked in the settings, but redirection is turned off. It is definitely related to JB, because I went through the whole procedure again and after the clean iOS4 restore the message does not appear, after JB it does. Tested on two 3G with the same result, operator O2. Does anyone have any advice?
I have the same problem too..
Please advise if someone does not know what stim is?
I don't rate the update to the 3G variant too positively either. I didn't think the iPhone was too thin before, and now it's even worse. The calendar that syncs with Google has definitely gotten worse. And the news - I don't rub them too much, but it's really enough for them to jump for about 8 seconds. The update was performed by DFU restore.
I slightly suspect that Navigon is somehow slowing down the operation of the phone.
So after what I read here, and what I myself experience with 4OS, I am clear!!! (3x DFU restore, the last time also as a "new phone"...and still on h....)
Is there an official procedure for going back to 3OS, or any advice on what to avoid and what to pay attention to when downgrading? Thanks in advance for the advice.
PS: please don't argue that it doesn't make sense in the future, etc... I'll just wait for 4.1 without errors, according to the worldwide pressure to fail 4, it won't take long ;-)
I came up with functional tethering
If you use tethering on your iPhone, you have an even older version of fw. 3.1.x and you are afraid to update to the new iOS 4.0, where tethering for O2 does not work as standard, I have good news for you. Even under iOS 4.0 tethering for O2 works great.
here is a small guide on how to update the system and break tethering.
1. after backing up your iPhone with iTunes follow the of this manual on the server 14205.w5.wedos.net
2. Jailbrake must be performed (however, you perform this at your own risk)
After that, the option for tethering in the settings menu appeared for several people - the network appeared, but after a restart it disappeared ... someone didn't have it there at all.
It is therefore necessary to choose from Cydia http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com and install ultrasn0w from it.
After a subsequent restart, tethering will be fully functional. (at least for me and operator O2)
Please advise, I bought an iPhone 3G here in the Czech Republic from Vodafone and I have never used jailbrake, partly because I didn't need it and mainly so I wouldn't claim the warranty. I have now updated to iOS 4 and my phone is crashing as mentioned in the articles here. My iPhone is still under warranty, should I take it from the methods listed here to jailbreak the iPhone? Is this a standard procedure without violating the warranty?
Thanks for the reply!
No, this is not a jailbreak, this is standard procedure, you are not breaking anything..
I did a DFU restore... the phone with iOS4 is a little different, it has lost the beautiful smoothness of the ranges... Calendar, SMS, camera start much slower... What happened to me once a month that it doesn't respond to the touch of a button now happens to me twice a day... for I had to turn it off twice a week…. well, I don't know if iOS4 is even worth it in 3G... oh yeah...
Thanks so much for the ADVICE! My husband's 3G seems to work at least as fast.
Hello, I have a problem every time I download, so 99% of the time the OS4 download ends when I download it via the given links. I select the link for 3G from the article, then I get a zip. What should I do with it to unzip it or what to do next?
Thanks to everyone who answers, PS: it's better to leave the OS3 version, because people write that they have real problems, I don't have any jailbreak, but I'd probably like to do a DFU restore to be sure, but I can't download it via iTunes and it's updated to 9.2.
Once again thanks to everyone who gives advice
OS 4 is really a big let down for me considering the speed of the phone and apps. It is possible to downgrade to a previous version. I am aware that some applications may not work for me in the future, but I need a reasonably fast phone and not what I have now. Thank you
I know it's a bit out of the ordinary, but is it possible to get ibooks in Czech somewhere, even for a fee?
Caute,
I have one question.
Here in SR, T mobile still blocks phones today...
If this "restoration from the floor" is done on the iPhone with iOS4 from apple, should the blocking on other SIM cards be removed? (mainly it's a software thing)
If the phone is locked, it will be locked even after any other restore... this will not unlock the phone..
This is nice, but an empty iPhone is kind of useless. With music, a few apps installed, emails and SMS received, the advantage of DFU restore is quickly lost and 3G will be slower than with 3.1.x.
However, 3.0 on 3G was also in a terrible state and only updates made it a good system.
Exactly,
Version:
2.0 was unstable…phone froze
2.1 was more stable, but the phone still occasionally got stuck and froze
2.2 is better, but as far as speed is concerned, only the next..
2.2.1 was stable and fast, best for iphone 3G
3.0 slow and the phone kept crashing
3.1 also not much, sometimes the phone didn't turn on after unlocking, sometimes the lock screen didn't light up after the sensor was messed up
3.1.2 better stability, but still slow on 3G, a
3.1.3 stable and fast as possible on 3G
The iPhone on 3g seems to be faster, only because of a different, possibly faster graphic interface. However, if you want to use the phone seriously, and not just scroll through the menu, iOS4 is absolutely unsatisfactory. Settings – which everyone uses several times a day is 125% slower than in 3.1.3., the camera is slower – zooming is actually useless, the calendar opens quickly but you can use it in about 2 seconds after it starts, then loading sms is longer than in 3.1.3. As for the Maps application, it completely froze, even after turning it off, the phone could not remember for a few tens of seconds and was slow. The photo gallery is the same as the calendar, open it quickly, but you have to wait about 2 seconds before you can do something in it.
I want to note that I did the restore via DFU, and the installation was done correctly.. Even I did not notice these "defects" in iOS4 at first glance, and they became apparent only after a while .. now I have 3.1.3. and I'm more satisfied
Unfortunately, even after a successful DFU restore on iOS 4, the system did not return to "normal", i.e. to be faster than it used to be. Everything is slow. Loading sms is really hell for about 5 seconds before anything appears at all, and I only have about 10 of them. But it is a fact that it was slower even on OS 3, but definitely not that much.
So, like a couple of colleagues before me, I would be interested in the way to downgrade to version 3. Will anyone answer this question? Thanks…
Downgrade to 3:
Maybe it is, but you will lose all your data after upgrading to 4.
Thanks for the tip, DFU + setup like a new iPhone noticeably increased the speed.
I tried it and it helped a lot.
JUST BEWARE: DON'T FORGET TO SYNCHRONIZE YOUR IPHONE BEFORE THIS PROCESS! THIS IS THE ONLY WAY YOU WILL RECEIVE ALL THE DATA WITHOUT CHANGES!
Cus.. I had the same problem.. it was slow and jerky.. I did it exactly according to the article and it worked like clockwork.. great thanks! It's just that after restoring the backup, it didn't load the application, but it wasn't a problem to download... otherwise I didn't lose anything... contacts, sms, etc.... all in one piece! I hope it holds up!
It is a miracle! I was already giving up on 3G and wanted to send it to moral retirement :)
Thank you.
Hello, restore gives me an error during the process... the phone then does not respond to the power button…. so i have to solve through power and home… so the phone is still the same slow…. any advice?
Díky
I had a similar problem when I was still using a laptop with Windows, specifically with Vista. I don't know why it happened, but the restore was never completed and I had to do it on other PCs, probably with Win XP. Try it on another PC if possible.
Hello everyone. This guide looks good, but…
Problem 1 – the downloaded file has a .zip extension, which does not support restore. I renamed it to .ipsw, which I already took.
Problem 2 – Restore at the end of the voice iPhone could not be restored…. Error 3194
Is there a way from here?
Thanks Jara
Everything goes OK, I select the downloaded file, it says "Verifying ..." and then it stops with a message:
The iPhone could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (3194).
And the end.
Please, give me an advice.
Díky
Cucumber
And during the normal Restore, it bit me for the 3rd time while downloading about 5 minutes before the end with the message 3259.
So it's been 2 days without a phone :-(
always try to google the exact error, you will usually find the answer.. here is what I found here.. http://thetechjournal.com/electronics/iphone-electronics/fix-iphone-restore-error-code-3194-1015-from-ios-4-to-ios-3-1-3.xhtml
don't install the downloaded file, click Restore without the Alt key, it will download the new version 4.0.1 by itself and that's it.
So in the end there was nothing left but Restore without the ALT button.
After about 5 attempts, the installation and recovery were successful.
If OS 4 was primarily 100% slower, after RESTORE online it is slower by about 70%. So fuck it. Furthermore, when BT and WIFI are switched off by default, the battery life has decreased from 5 days to 2 days, so all in all everything sucks, the phone cannot be used.
Now I wonder how I can get back to OS 3.1 with online Restore? Or how to environmentally dispose of a flawless iPhone so far.
Thanks for the advice, it helped me a lot. It just wouldn't let me install the download, it just downloaded the current version 4.0.1. Restoring from the backup was fine, I didn't lose anything. The only problem was that it shuffled my apps from how I had them lined up before.
Does anyone know how to activate an iPhone without an original sim card??? when I turn it on with or without sleep, it still wants me to activate it, but itunes doesn't want to do it, I don't have an original sim
Hello everyone,
thank you very much for the guide. iPhone G3 now runs with iOS4 like new, how to write or launch SMS, the web, e-mails, or the app itself. I really recommend it. It works.
He just wants to get the Power and Home button hold times right and their press and release timing right. But everything worked out the second time, and overall it didn't last more than 1 hour, including Backup.
It depends on the completeness of your last backup, but otherwise you will have all your notes, contacts, emails, settings, etc.
So once again thank you very much. Valuable advice. Peter, Zlín.
Hello,
after restoring OS 4, a restore was made from a backup, but only applications. Contacts, photos, e-mail accounts, calendar entries, SMS, nothing else. I found some files in the Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\ folder, can you tell me if there is any way to restore it? The photos were there, so I assume everything else is there. I have 3G, OS4 without JB.
Mathew
Cus, I put the iPhone in restore mode, put shift+restore, found ios4 (which I downloaded on some unknown sites...) it sounds like a problem to me, please don't you know what to do with it or where can I download a good ios4? thank you very much for the quick reply
I had a similar problem, I had an iPhone 3G updated to iOS 4.0.1 via iTunes, it crashed terribly, so I went into DFU mode according to the instructions, turned the phone black properly and when I then used shift-restore to insert the iOS 4 file downloaded from the link ( see above), after a while I got an error message (I think 3194) and the phone was totally dead. So I repeated everything, but I no longer used shift in iTunes, but only restore. The iPhone jumped in and really now runs better than before. I note that I completed everything today, when the new update 4.0.2 is already available, but I don't have the courage for it yet. After synchronization, everything started up again as it should, I just had to revive gmail again in the iPhone settings (the password was enough, the other email addresses started up by themselves). I only lost the photos, but as I read in the forum, someone has a recipe for it... Good luck, this tutorial from Mr. Zdarsa is faster and easier in my opinion than downgrading, it works really well!
I did a DFU restore and it went OK for a while. It's the same for day two of operation. I can't take it anymore. Sometimes I feel like with Windows Mobile. It flies like crazy.
I will have to replace it.
I did it exactly according to the instructions, see above, and when uploading the FW, I got error 3174, don't you know what it means? Thanks Pavel.
sorry, I made a typo, the error is 3194
…. try restore in iTunes without shift, then it started...
I have a problem, during installation I get error 3194. But when I restore without Shift, the installation only runs for a while and then at 3/4 it stops and does nothing. Could someone please advise me? Because I can't get any iOS there yet.
can this procedure also be used on iOS 4.0.2? I like it
I downloaded these firmware 4.0.2
http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=750&laid=33
and he did everything according to the instructions above only with a higher fw, but the iphone is still slow
any advice pls?
I upgraded my boss's iPhone 3g to OS 4. The phone is fully legal, no jailbreak, nothing like that. We just stopped synchronizing with Exchange. I would type it on the certificate, because I can't think of anything else. During the initial installation, all you had to do was go to the web interface of our exchange and the certificate was automatically downloaded there. Now it doesn't work, I get to the web interface, but the certificate doesn't offer it to me. The internet claims somewhere that the old certificate can be deleted under Settings-general-profiles, but I don't see profiles there. (it could also be because the boss and the phone are not here and I borrowed another iPhone on which no email is set.
When I email the certificate and try to install it using a web email (i.e. I open the email in the web interface in Safari and click on *.zip, it doesn't work).
I'm fighting for my life here!
I have one question, I have iOS 3 installed on 4.0.2G and I would like to restore using DFU, what software should I download? Does it even work? I have a slow iPhone, but that's probably a standard problem.
Hello, I would like to ask if it is possible to perform this procedure also on OS 4.1 iPhone 3G. If so, where would I find this OS? Thanks
Hello,
I am asking for advice. The file that is posted here in the discussion as fw for iphone is in version 4.0, where could I find the same one only in the latest version? I would be very happy if someone could post it. Thank you Matouš :-).
PS I have an iphone 3G, if this version is ideal and not worth flashing the latest fw then please tell, thanks again.
Hello, I can't get the iPhone 3G into DFU according to the instructions from the author of the article. The only thing that happens after following it is that the phone turns off, it drops out of iTunes.
Please advise what is wrong.
Thanks in advance,
M.
Hi, I have a problem when I want to restore from 4.1 to 4.0, it gives me an error (3194), what is it? please advise THX
It gave me some error at the end
And my iPhone turned on and there was a loading bar under the apple, what does that mean?
Hey, everything is ok, thanks.
Hello,
I have a probably stupid question, but I'll ask anyway.
I have 3G with JB, and iTunes automatically offers me an update to 4.2.
Can I grant it or do I have to follow the instructions given here?
According to the instructions, I will get to version 4.0…
Thank you for your opinion...
Hi, do I download the OS to iTunes or do I save it normally to disk and then enter the path during the restore? Thanks
People like the one who wrote this guide should be given metal..:-) I don't know about others, but it helped me 100%!! but I wasn't allowed to restore the data, because that would bring the "slowness" again.. I uploaded just the contacts again and it was great... Thank you...
Hello, I'm doing a DFU restore, but when I restart it says: iphone could not be restored error 1015 at the end
Don't know what to do with it please?
Hello, I want to ask you for help!!! I have an iphone 3g on which I had ios 313 with jailbreak. Not long ago, I messed it up and so I decided to restore and I managed to do it even on ios 421 with bb 06.15.00 and the phone is completely vp…..li !!! it's really slow, the screen flickers, can't restore from itunes, error 1650 or something pops up. I also have a problem with ultrasn0w, it always crashes or error 1015 pops up. further, if the screen is locked and sits idle for 20 seconds, it automatically turns off and cannot be turned on! I feel like it fits into DFU mode because it only responds to the next restart and then it can be turned on normally. please help me, what should I do to make him fit!!! thank you in advance, I'm cracking up
Hello, could you help me... I deleted quite an important SMS from my mobile phone and I would like to ask if there is any way to get it back? I have an IPhone 3GS. Thank you
Hello, I tried this instruction, and it was bad :( very bad... I did everything according to the instructions and at the very end it said that my sim is blocked and only the power and itunes icon pops up on my mobile....like me, I'm a terrible amateur, never I didn't do anything with it, but the last good one, I couldn't download anything anymore, because I didn't have it updated, and this is how it turned out... please, does anyone know what to do with it? or maybe some willing person who would be able to restore it? I will be rewarded and someone from Brno and the surrounding area :) I will be happy for any advice, thanks a lot
The Iphone "Iphone" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (3194). it tells me the same thing every time from restore and DFU mode, I don't know what I'm doing anymore!
In the end it will write error 1015, don't you know how to fix it?
Hello,
please, I got into recovery mode, is there a way to cancel it so I don't lose data? in the Apple store they advised me to reinstall my iPhone. is there no other solution?

Thank you in advance
Hi, what should I do if it goes wrong when I press "Restore" it says that the iPhone could not be restarted because there is an error but I don't know what it is? I did everything exactly according to the instructions and it still doesn't work. Thanks for the reply! :)
good day, I succeeded on my iphone 3g 8gb and everything is fine, I just want to ask how iOS 4.2.1 is better than iOS 3.2.1??
Hello. I need help! I have an iPhone from Spain, I did a jailbreak and I didn't have an active iPhone. When I turn it on, the logo pops up and it's over. I don't know what to do with it. I'm afraid that I broke it.. please contact me.
Hello, I want to ask if the procedure can also be applied to the iPhone 3 gs and os5, I also want to ask if the mobile will not be blocked after the reinstallation. Thank you
Hello,
I would like to ask about the possibility of restoring the 3GS.
I have a 3GS + jailb (probably = I'm not an expert) and I would like to ask if I can install iOs6?
I would like to restore the IP as well. To have a default setting. Possible ?
I am concerned that I could no longer use the device on the O2 operator. I received the phone and that's why I don't know if it is further "modified".
Thanks a lot for every guide.
DAVID

Hello, thank you for the advice, I gave it, but I deleted the old versions of Skype and Facebook on the drive, so when I want to download it again, Apple or iTunes tell me that I must have the lowest version 4.3.
thank you in advance for your reply, regards Birhan
Still the same slow, this didn't help either.
I need help, I have a 3G IP but it was crashing etc. so I wanted to erase it completely, so I put it back to the factory data and now when I turn it on, I only find the apple there and nothing to do with it?
