Think iPads are dead? This is definitely not the case. Although Apple did not present any new model this year and will not present any more, it is planning something big for next year. It should revitalize their entire portfolio.

If we look at the competition in the field of tablets, Samsung has been the most successful this year. He introduced 7 new tablets with Android. In the summer, it was the Galaxy Tab S9 series with three models, then in October came the lightweight Galaxy Tab S9 FE and Galaxy Tab S9 FE+ and the cheap Galaxy Tab A9 and A9+. Apple, on the other hand, broke its streak of releasing at least one model every year for 13 years. But the next one will make up for it.

The market for tablets is oversaturated, which is mainly due to the period of covid, when people bought them not only for fun but also for work. But they don't have the need to replace them with a newer model yet, so their sales generally keep falling. Samsung tried to reverse this by churning out a number of variants that will satisfy every customer not only with functions but also with price. However, Apple bet on a different strategy – to let the market be the market and come up with news only when it makes sense. And that should be next year.

According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman because Apple plans to update its entire range of iPads in 2024. That means we're in for a new iPad Pro, iPad Air, iPad mini, and an entry-level iPad that will probably get its 11th generation. Of course, it is not yet known if the 9th with the Home Button will remain in the menu.

When was the last time Apple released iPads?

  • iPad Pro: October 2022
  • iPad: October 2022
  • iPad Air: March 2022
  • iPad mini: September 2021

Now the question is when the new iPads will arrive. Gurman has previously said that lower to mid-range iPads could be updated in March next year, with the launch of the 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Pro with the M3 chip and OLED display expected in the first half of the year. Of course, it would be worthwhile for Apple to combine all the new products of its tablet portfolio into one date and, ideally, one Keynote. A separate special event, which would exclusively concern iPads, could arouse the appropriate interest around them. To a certain extent, leaks from Keynote itself would also create this.

So, by completely skipping one year of new tablet launches, Apple may be able to reverse the current declining market trend. Of course, it also depends on what news they will prepare for the new tablets. But a spring launch around March/April would seem like ideal timing, as waiting until October/November would be too long. Hopefully, we will see a similar event at all and Apple will not gradually dispense iPads always associated with some more interesting hardware that would overshadow them again.
