The unpleasant problem is reported by iPhone owners all over Europe. The latest iPhone 6S suddenly loses the GPS signal in LTE networks and makes it impossible to use maps and navigation. It is not yet clear what is causing the signal loss.
Apparently, however, this is not a global problem, at least the American websites did not draw attention to similar behavior of the new iPhones. On the contrary, several people write about losing the GPS signal German websites and the problem is solved live on the Apple forums or of the French operator Bouygues.
Among the Germans, French, Belgians and Danes, there were also several Czech users reporting the same error. It may not appear immediately, but, for example, after a few minutes of running navigation, whether in maps from Apple, Google or the Waze application.
So it's definitely not a problem with specific apps, but at least a software issue associated with probably all versions of iOS 9, or even a hardware issue. But the last option would only apply if the GPS signal was lost exclusively on iPhone 6S or 6S Plus.
However, while driving today with the Waze application and the LTE network from T-Mobile, we also lost the signal on last year's iPhone 6 Plus. Although only for a few seconds, and then it jumped again, but during that time the application reported that it was not receiving any GPS signal, although there was no reason for this.
Apple has not yet officially commented on the problem, but users are starting to call for support in larger numbers, which engineers in Cupertino should also respond to later.
The only thing that is certain so far is that LTE and GPS do not understand each other on the new iPhones. In the Czech Republic, users are apparently facing the problem with all three operators, however, according to some, it will only occur in some types of LTE. 1800MHz LTE is mentioned most often.
A temporary solution should be to turn off LTE networks in Settings > Mobile data > Turn on LTE > Off. However, you will lose faster internet, and moreover, this method did not help all users. We can only hope that Apple notices the problem and responds as soon as possible.
T-mobile still has LTE in the Czech Republic like saffron, so I wouldn't see it as tragic from this point of view. :)
Unfortunately, I have this problem and it is really unpleasant. In the case of turning off LTE, everything sleeps as it should - but driving on Sumave where LTE is only on EDGE and listening to music with apple music is not very great - so I really hope that it will be fixed and solved. Otherwise, it happened to me around Mlad Boleslav, around the Blanka tunnel (when exiting the tunnel, the navigation with LTE does not work and without LTE practically immediately after exiting the tunnel) and also after the Sumava cell, where I drove this weekend.
At the end of August, T-Mobile already had LTE coverage of 59% of the population, 68% of the territory. Today is November, so there will be much more. According to the ČTÚ website, T-Mobile has LTE+3G in 94,5% of the population and 82,6% of the territory (Vodafone 96,2, respectively 81,7). So I wouldn't overdo it with the saffron. So far, Vodafone has built LTE primarily on "slower" 3G frequencies, now it is also building a lot on those intended for LTE.
Well, I know the data, but I'm reluctant to believe it. In Ostrava, LTE can only be caught in two places, and even then quite weakly, although 3G is very decently covered here. However, at home, approx. 9 km from the center, on a straight line, I don't even have 3G, or it jumps between 3G and E, which is why the current possibility of keeping 2G on for a while is extremely important to me - otherwise I would receive messages about missed calls, even though I had my phone with me and I thought the signal was there, i.e. 3G. Now I keep getting offers on the display that the operator wants to update the settings, which I resist for the above reasons. But one time I make a mistake and I'm screwed.
Otherwise, my wife has O2 and LTE works fine at her home, even at the cottage in Wallachia, where I run up the hill to make a call, she calls just fine.
A year ago I signed an extension of the contract of all the company's foons and got a decent price for it, so now I can't jump out, they bought me. :D
I use navigation quite regularly and have not noticed the problem so far. iPhone 6S, Vodafone ..
Come on, just shut the fuck up, you woodpeckers. As the spermoghlt wrote the other day: Apple tries to make the best and most advanced products in all areas, at least on the whole planet, but also in the entire universe. Everything just changed.
Otherwise, I tried uploading again via DFU, I tried restarting, so it won't be the case :)
6s – o2, I use waze very often, there has been no problem yet....
I have this exact problem too, thanks for letting me know. 6s, T-Mobile.
Turning off LTE doesn't help me, only restarting the phone.
it is true that this happens to me on iP6 / T-mobile. Usually the loss of GPS signal is not for long, so I haven't dealt with it much yet. It rather bothers me that I have an LTE signal at home, but it is weak. And sometimes the phone probably can't handle the more frequent transition from LTE to 3G and back and reports no mobile signal. Then it only helps to get to the plane and back, or reboot. Does anyone have a similar problem?
I was just looking at the iP 6S Plus... so I'll change my mind about the purchase later. I have a 5S and I don't have similar problems and I wouldn't like to look for GPS when I go somewhere to film... is there anyone who has Vodafone and an iP6S Plus??? I would like to know his opinions and experiences. Dikes and maybe Apple will really try (mostly it will work out) :)
It's really annoying - it happens to me quite often (Prague - Pribram or just around Prague). If I turn off LTE, it works, but I don't like switching it all the time, and especially with a phone at this price, I don't even want to do it. But from what I read on the forums, it didn't help specific people or exchange it for another piece. So it will be a file according to specific LTE transmitters.
thanks for the experience... and do you have vodafone?
No, no, I have T-Mobile – vodafone, according to my name, transmits at 1800Mhz, so it might not be so annoying. Because sometimes it really happens that I drive for an hour and a half without any problem, then it goes bad for 5 minutes and then it works again for another hour and a half. So it really looks like some concrete broadcasting.
iPhone 6s, T-Mobile. On the R10 expressway, between Boleslav and Prague at the weekend, the iPhone lost GPS for about 5 minutes, restarting the phone brought up GPS again. (the plane didn't help)
Yes, it happened to me on this exact section too - on the way from Prague to Jablonec, it happened to me somewhere around the nose of the plane :)
Same place, same problem :-O
Same place same problems
So I have this problem. I've even had my phone replaced (it's much better after the replacement). T-Mobile network. iPhone bought in De. Sometimes a restart helped, it started right away. Otherwise, what @disqus_4oiSo4RMnr: disqus no service/no signal also wrote to me.
All I have to do is turn on the airplane mode, turn off all applications that use GPS, then turn off LTE and turn on the signal and navigation again - then everything works without a problem - except for "fast" data :) I tried to call Apple support last week, it seems to be fine they didn't know anything, but it's been resolved a bit on the apple forum :) so we'll see
This is called a perfect user experience…
Yes, it's a big deal ;) so when I drive far and really need navigation, I drive without LTE and I hope I won't have to deal with it soon. I already had enough iPhones - always older ones - now I bought a new one and such problems with it ;)
Um, so I don't want an iPhone 6S anymore, this cured me. I see that really only everything has changed. :-)))
I've been using iOs since version 4, but nine is still too much for me. Searching for a contact in contacts is not possible, keys are getting lost. shortcut, draining the phone, priorities of wifi networks, cutting, lags in the menu... That Apple is probably just raking in the money :)
That's not possible :D
WiFi network priorities, what exactly do you mean by that? I thought it was only my problem.
That if I have two Wifi networks, I want network 1 to connect and network 2 to be available, but it does not connect automatically, only when I select it manually. Unfortunately, it sometimes happens that I want to be on network 1 but I'm on network 2 and I have to select and connect network 1 manually.
So it will be the same for me. I have one WiFi and two routers, but the iPhone always deliberately chooses the one with the weakest (or perfect rear) signal. I already complained about the phone, but it was unsuccessful.
why claim the phone here? :D
Can't find a contact in your contacts? It happens to me that Spotlight does not find my contact. I'll find him in my contacts. But since I'm looking for everything through Spotlight, it really bothers me. But I thought I was the only one with the problem. I'm guessing not :(
I put contacts/phone and search up there – Nothing. Many users on iOS 9.1 with iPhone 5S suffer from this, I'm quite surprised that such a bug has not been fixed for so long.
When you put a name in the spotlight, the most frequently used ones will pop up at the top. Sit a little lower, they're all there ;)
Unfortunately, this is not true. It happens to me that it doesn't show any contact at all. Spotlight just pretends that there is no such contact on the phone, but I can find it in contacts. As soon as I find it in contacts, Spotlight always finds it. It just looks like poorly indexed phone content to me.
What iOS version do you have? Someone mentioned earlier that 9.1 already fixed it.
I have 9.1. It's true that this happens to me much less often than with 9.0, but it does happen occasionally :(
I'm not surprised, the last stable and almost 100% working version of the system was iOS 6.1, then everything goes downhill from iOS 7 - both in terms of reliability and design... Quo Vadis Apple?
Unfortunately, I am also among the dissatisfied 6s/T-Mobile customers, I now use two phones in the car, but I only view pictures on the iPhone, it was a good purchase
That's how I vote, 6S and T-Mobile. Outages throughout the Guilds after approx. 15-20 minutes of navigation. Turning location services off and on for a while helped.
When I hear "emoji icons", the quiver in my pocket opens. I confirm the problem with LTE from both CR and Ireland. In addition, pdf attachments in mail stopped being displayed.
iphone 6s, vodafone, no problem!!!
I bought an iPhone 6s in Dresden this year, I had a big problem with GPS. After the complaint, again in Dresden, the phone was replaced on the spot with a different one, but even it sometimes drops out for a few seconds, or it takes a relatively long time to catch up again after exiting the tunnel (e.g. on the Prague ring road after the exit from Barrandov nad Radotín, the signal is caught until at the descent to Strakonická!!).
