The iOS 8 operating system is plagued with other annoyances. After failed update with 8.0.1 causing signal issues, two major bugs surfaced this week. iCloud Drive and QuickType are affected.
The first problem with iCloud Drive occurs when you factory reset your device. This can be done through several options in the Settings > General > Reset section. One of the options we find here is also the option to discard all phone settings (eg saved Wi-Fi networks, Notification Center settings, security and so on). This option should clear all preferences but not data.
However, some users who took advantage of this option claim that along with their settings, all data from iCloud Drive disappeared from their devices. Although the choice Reset all settings accompanied by the text “This will reset all settings. No data or media will be deleted.”, all iWork documents and data from other applications will disappear from the web storage. This problem first revealed one of the forum users MacRumors and the journalists of this website made a mistake they confirmed.
It appears to occur on both iPhone and iPad, regardless of model. Additionally, if you own multiple such devices, after a quick sync, your documents and data will disappear from them as well – including your Mac with OS X Yosemite. Unfortunately, iCloud does not offer any backup option and does not move deleted files to the trash, but just throws them away. Apple has not yet commented on the problem or the options for remediation.
The second problem is somewhat less serious, but it is also annoying, especially for foreign users. The QuickType predictive technology that Apple added to the keyboard in iOS 8, according to a French blog iGen.fr it also adds usernames and passwords to the word menu. This means that if someone peeks under your fingers while you're typing, or if you lend someone your phone, there's a chance they'll be able to read your e-mail or online banking credentials.
QuickType remembers these data after they are entered in the login forms of sites visited in Safari and does not "forget" even passwords that have already been changed. At the same time, iOS 8 does not give its users the opportunity to view the list of words that QuickType has learned, so it is de facto impossible to deal with this error other than to turn off the predictive keyboard (Settings > General > Predictive).
The solution is, of course, to also use Czech or Slovak, as these languages have not yet received this new function - and not only that.
And isn't iCloud Drive Beta by any chance?
It isn't. It is only unavailable on OS X except Yosemite which is in Beta. But on iOS 8 it's publicly available without any mention of a beta version. For iPhone and iPad users only, this is a normally used feature.
Ah, thanks for the clarification. :)
What do Windows 8 and iOS 8 have in common?:-D
The number in the title. Hello
Hi everyone – maybe I'm a slob, but isn't that too much for one short period of time? I have an iPhone for the third year and yes, I have a 4Sku 16GB, so nothing new against the rest of you... I take it from the point of view of an ordinary user, who you can attack with expressions from the field of various IT floors and I still won't understand you :-) "propaganda" (why not take down Apple, right?), but the unfortunate patches after iOS 6 and the information attached to it are sad in my opinion... Although I did a factory "reset" once for iOS 8 (I could blame myself, but all ok) but I think circumstances may force each of us to do so and then suddenly I (we) lose everything on iCloud? Or I don't call anywhere, I don't write an iMessage, I don't look at the Apple Store, for example? On the other hand, I still remain loyal and protective of the iPhone and Apple…
A standard thing during development, unfortunately, users who test are sometimes not able to simulate all eventualities (and from the developer's point of view, I will tell you that it is simply not possible). Yes, the bugs are increasing, but on the other hand, iOS8 is currently the most open Apple mobile OS ever, allowing developers to do a lot of good things.
I DO NOT APOLOGIZE Apple, I just personally expected it... And I would say that this is not the last screw-up :)
I wonder how the new iOS 8 is open... ;-) It is closed like all previous versions. The only thing that has changed (swollen) is the API, that's all. But this is not related to the openness of the operating system.
Of course you're right, rather what I meant (and stupidly described) is that the system swells and errors are introduced into it. See the rule that in 1000 lines of code there are approximately 20-30 errors :)
Hello, can someone give me some advice, when I have a call or SMS, it is displayed not only on my iPhone, but also on my iPad, I don't know how to turn it off. Thank you very much for the advice
On the iPad, turn off: Settings - facetime - mobile calls on the iPhone
As for sms, turn off imessage reception on the iPad.
Is it just my feeling or has Apple's software department not mastered it in recent years? In fact, no other service has ever worked for me 100% - MobileMe, iCloud, iCloudDrive. With all of them, I lost data at least once, or Apple damaged it somehow (need photos for contact = randomly assigned). And as for the application, I used to use apple software almost everywhere, today I prefer third-party applications or old versions (need iWork). Somehow it seems to me that Apple only knows the hardware and I'm terribly sorry.
'case by case'…. I, on the other hand, had no problems with .Mac, MobileMe or iCloud - maybe it sounds strange to some, but I never lost any data and availability was always good, the problem was more with my connectivity (missing or crippling). It rather pisses me off that they don't know how to properly integrate those services and let them live without first canceling them and then loading them again (iDisk -> iCloudDrive, Keychain vs iCloud keychain - but synchronization still doesn't do what happens via .Mac, Photostream vs Photo sharing ) or they keep trying to do things their own way (a spam filter on iCloud that keeps marked messages on the server and a person will never know that something hasn't arrived, but normal spam sometimes gets through just fine)
Apple started using program centers in India, yes, they are very cheap and fast, but I just don't reach the sophistication of the centers in China and America... Indian programmers are brilliant, but they lack the precision of logistics, and in such a complicated structure of one of the most complex systems in the world, iOS 8 can reach to errors... Ps but the percentage of errors is still very very small... And after Job's absolute precision, where everything was programmed by one center in America, it is difficult to keep up, because it was a unique phenomenon for the complexity and size of the system...
I've been with OS X since version 10.0 and it's always been pretty buggy. This is nothing new.
Rec is about iOS, not OS X
I am commenting on the overall quality of software that comes from Apple. There was never any glory, which is simply the way other companies do it. I don't see any drop in quality lately.
it can be seen that you have been an Apple user for years... and you probably don't surf other platforms... because after having experience with, for example, Android 2.2, you would probably be surprised at what can be passed off as the final version of the software... on the other hand, any version of Apple is a miracle of functionality...
Unfortunately. Mac since 10.0, Android sometimes since 1.6, Linux since time immemorial, sporadically or historically also other platforms... These old Androids are roughly as bad as the first OS X.
Yes and no. It's the same as comparing the safety of SUVs and cars (by insurance companies, not by me). It is true that there is less injury in an SUV than in a passenger car, but if there is any, it is much more serious with damage to the spine, etc. Unfortunately, apple is an SUV. PS: comparing Android 2, even if 4 is bad, is on the other hand... Not even a panty like a pears and apples file. You can directly download Windows 3 or Windows Mobile 6.5
By the way, am I the only one having iOS 8 battery problems on iPhone 5? I'm not just talking about the fact that 3G eats up my battery, but it happens that my phone turns off and looks like it's dead, but when I put it on the charger, it shows that the battery still has juice. It happened to me a while ago, the battery was at 50%, I took 3 photos with the flash, I wanted to look at them and the phone "drained". I also tend to freeze, sometimes the screen goes black or the keyboard doesn't respond. I haven't had any problems so far, but the last few days I've been cursing a lot.
