Regardless of which Czech operator we focus on, when compared to foreign ones in terms of data tariff prices, it usually comes out as a loser, unless you are a business customer or a special discount does not apply to you. You rarely get Wi-Fi when you travel, and if you need to use mobile data frequently, you have two options: buy a larger but also significantly more expensive data package, or try to save as much as possible. In this article, we will show you iPhone features that will reduce data consumption.

Turn off background app updates

Even when you are not using your smartphone, it performs various tasks in the background, such as synchronizing files with cloud storage or downloading data. However, in addition to battery life, this also affects the consumption of the data package, so it is useful to deactivate the function in some cases. To do so, go to Settings -> General -> Background Updates. Here you can either (de)activate switches for individual applications separately or with the option Background updates set whether they will be performed through Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi and mobile data or at all by tapping on Off.

Data saving settings in individual applications

If we focus on native apps, for example Photos, in order to free up space on the device, they automatically upload data to iCloud, leaving lower resolution photos and videos on the phone. As for Apple Music, for example, it can also cut a large part of the data package during streaming. To reduce usage in Photos, go to Settings -> Photos -> Mobile data a turn off switch Mobile data and further disable Unlimited updates. For Apple Music, move to Settings -> Music -> Mobile data and according to your need (de)activate switches Mobile data, Streaming, High quality streaming a Downloading.

Disable automatic downloads

So that you don't have to worry about anything, the iPhone automatically downloads the applications installed on other devices signed in to the same Apple ID and updates the ones already installed. However, if you are on mobile data and do not have a large data package, it will only be pleasant for the operators, not for your wallet. To turn it off, move to Settings -> App Store and in the section Mobile data turn off Automatic Downloads. To disable automatic downloads completely, turn off switches Application a Update applications.

Turn on low power mode

If you think that low power mode is only useful for saving battery, I can prove you wrong. It will limit the use of Wi-Fi and mobile data to a minimum, as it turns off automatic updates, background downloads and many other functions. Go to Settings -> Battery a Low power mode activate. For faster access, you can also add it to the control center, you can do this in Settings -> Control Center.

Low data mode

Since the arrival of iOS, i.e. iPadOS with the number 13, the option to turn on a single function to reduce the consumption of most applications to the lowest possible has finally appeared in the settings. In addition to turning off updates, you will achieve the fact that the quality will be reduced to the lowest possible in individual multimedia applications, and data saving will be set in others. Open it Settings -> Mobile data -> Data options a turn on switch Low data mode. If you have your device connected to a personal hotspot, you can also activate the saving. Go to Settings -> Wi-Fi and in the given network select Low data mode.
