About two weeks ago, Apple released new versions of its operating systems. Specifically, we saw the presentation of iOS and iPadOS 15.5, macOS 12.4 Monterey, watchOS 8.6 and tvOS 15.5. So if you are one of the owners of devices that are still supported, it means that you can download and install the updates. In any case, it is necessary to mention that after carrying out updates, there are practically always a handful of users who start to complain about a decrease in performance or a deterioration in the endurance of Apple devices. If you have updated to watchOS 8.6 and now have a problem with the battery life of your Apple Watch, then this article is for you.

Turning on power saving mode during exercise

We will start right away with the most effective tip through which you can save a lot of battery power. As you probably know, the Apple Watch unfortunately does not have a classic low-power mode like, for example, the iPhone. Instead, there is a Reserve mode that disables all functions completely. In any case, you can at least use the energy-saving mode during exercise, thanks to which the heart rate will not be measured during running and walking. So, if you don't mind that during this type of exercise there will be no measurement of heart activity, then go to iPhone to the application Watch, where in the category My watch open the section Exercises, and then activate Power Saving Mode.

Deactivating heart rate monitoring

Do you use the Apple Watch as an extension of your Apple phone? Are you interested in virtually no healthcare functions? If you answered yes, then I have a tip for you to ensure an even greater extension of the battery life of the Apple Watch. In particular, you can completely deactivate the monitoring of heart activity, which means that you completely deactivate the sensor on the back of the watch that touches the user's skin. If you would like to cancel heart activity monitoring, just tap iPhone open the application Watch, go to category My watch and open the section here Privacy. Then that's it disable Heart rate.

Disabling wake-up by raising your wrist

There are several ways to light up the Apple Watch display. Either you can tap your finger on the display, or you can slide your finger over the digital crown. Most often, however, we use the function, thanks to which the Apple Watch display automatically lights up after raising the wrist upwards and turning it towards the head. This way, you don't have to touch anything at all, you just have to raise your wrist with the watch. But the truth is that from time to time motion detection can be wrong and the Apple Watch display can turn on unintentionally. And if this happens several times a day, it can cause a decrease in battery life. To disable wake-up by raising your wrist, go to iPhone to the application Watch, where you open the category My watch. Go to here Display and brightness and using the switch turn off Raise your wrist to wake.

Deactivation of animations and effects

Apple's operating systems look modern, stylish and simply good. In addition to the design itself, the various animations and effects that are rendered in certain situations also have merit. However, this rendering of course needs a certain amount of power, which means higher battery consumption. Fortunately, the display of animations and effects can be disabled directly on the Apple Watch, where you go to Settings → Accessibility → Restrict movement, where using a switch activate Limit movement. After activation, in addition to increased battery life, you can also notice a significant acceleration of the system.

Activation of the Optimized charging function

The battery inside any portable device is considered a consumable item that loses its properties over time and use. This means that the battery subsequently loses its capacity and does not last as long charged, in addition, it may not be able to provide sufficient hardware performance later, which leads to hangs, application crashes or system restarts. Therefore, it is necessary to ensure the longest possible battery life. In general, batteries prefer to be in the 20-80% charge range - beyond this range the battery will still work, but it ages faster. The Optimized Charging function helps to keep the Apple Watch battery from charging above 80%, which can record when you charge the watch and limit charging accordingly, with the last 20% charging occurring just before disconnecting from the charger. You activate optimized charging on Apple Watch v Settings → Battery → Battery health, where you just need to go below and function turn on.
