There are countless communication services. WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Telegram or Viber are used all over the world to send messages, photos and much more. All these applications also work on iPhones, which, however, have their own proprietary communication service - iMessage. But it loses in many ways against the competition.
Personally, I mainly use Messenger from Facebook to communicate with friends, and I regularly communicate with a few selected contacts via iMessage. And the service from the workshop of the most popular social network today leads; it is more efficient. This is not the case with iMessage or in comparison to the other applications mentioned above.
The main problem is that while competing platforms are constantly improving and adapting their communication tools to the needs of users, Apple has practically not touched its iMessage in its almost five years of existence. In iOS 10, which it looks like it will introduce this summer, it has a great opportunity to make its service more attractive.
It should be noted that News is already among the most used applications on iOS. So Apple doesn't need to improve iMessage to attract more users, but it should do so as a matter of development. There are many options, and below is a list of what we would like to see in iMessage in iOS 10:
- Easier to create group conversations.
- Read receipts in conversations.
- Improved adding attachments (iCloud Drive and other services).
- Option to mark a message as unread.
- Option to schedule/delay the sending of the selected message.
- Connect with FaceTime to make it easier to start a video call.
- Improved search and filtering.
- Faster access to the camera and subsequent sending of the captured photo.
- iMessage web app (on iCloud).
For competing platforms, iMessage will probably never be created, however, Apple could at least make things easier for some users via a web application within iCloud.com. If you don't have an iPhone, iPad or Mac handy, just a browser on any device would be enough.
Without details like being able to mark a message as unread or schedule it to be sent, iMessage works, but it's little things like that that would make the service even more efficient. In particular, many people call for improved access to larger conversations.
What would you like to see in iOS 10 within iMessage?
Well, probably yes, but imessage is an application that works without errors, which, of course, cannot be said about a large number of other native applications (especially Mail, Apple Music, etc.), so I'm a little afraid that it will just mess things up, so I'd rather leave it at that. they don't interfere, now the synchronization with mac os x works perfectly, I can send messages from both, it's linked, so for me - don't interfere, let it work, apple can't keep up and many bugs haven't been solved
I agree with the author that a couple of the listed things would be useful.
Mainly:
Read receipts in conversations.
Option to mark a message as unread.
Connect with FaceTime to make it easier to start a video call.
Improved search and filtering.
I wouldn't need iMessage on the web anyway. It's just a eavesdropper ;-)
I would take iMessage on the web by all means. Unfortunately, I no longer write with other Apple users via iMessage. Because when I'm sitting at work, where I'm forced to use a Windows computer, I'm simply not going to reply to messages from my mobile. I prefer to use FB messenger instead.
+Blocking of synchronization of selected SMS messages - two-phase verification, e.g. in a bank.
What is "read receipt in conversations"? For me, delivered and read are displayed in the messages.
But when you have a group with more people, the read message won't show up, right?
Those verification SMS in the bank are really a bit of a problem, see http://jablickar.cz/preposilani-sms-na-mac-efektivne-prekonava-dvoufazove-overeni/
Ah, conversation=group. I use it minimally, I don't have that many iPhone users around.
By the way, when hoping for a multi-platform service (via the web), just remember the empty promises at the introduction of FaceTime that the format would be open...
1) you can get from messages to facetime in two taps, I think it couldn't be simpler.
2) I would welcome iMessage on the web precisely in those situations when, for example, I have to use Windows at work and I don't want to go elsewhere.
The problem with iMessage is that they are universal and widespread even on very old iPhones, when you come up with some revolutionary change, it is difficult for the old devices without the new iOS to fight with it... which would be possible if the message application could be replaced, but it is systemic and deeply integrated. If they started talking more about it and segmenting their user base, people would gradually leave iMessage for wp, viber and other bullshit. What's the point of an IM application that only works with someone. And given that iPhones are usable even after many years, the number of old iPhones will not be negligible.
I've historically used Skype a lot, and that may be where my recommendation comes from
1/ allow editing already sent messages
2/ I use iMessage a lot on my MacBook, it would be nice if the Messages application enabled Skype integration (Facebook messenger can already be integrated)
3/ client for the Windows platform within iCloud
4/ option to send sms to the contact / or wait until he is online - actually switch between sms communication and Viber chat
I would welcome screen sharing and the ability to control the iPhone and iPad remotely, as is the case with the Macbook :)
it would be enough for me if Apple lived up to its word about how iOS9 and ElCapitan will focus exclusively on improving functions, speed... it hasn't happened yet and the next version is already approaching. In general, the annual cycle seems like nonsense to me, before the system is debugged, there is another one.
And it's not just Apple…
FaceTime calls in two taps, what more could you want? Just like taking a photo.
In my opinion, the universal imessage application would not be successful. I can already see how my friends install imessage because of me, when we have FB messenger, Whatsapp or Vibec. I don't even use Whatsapp. I have iMessage with the apple store and with the others classic sms (unlimited plan), or always online on FB.
And iMessage to iCloud to web interface? Why on earth? The only time it happens that I'm without a MacBook, iPhone or watch... actually I don't even know when :D I always have something to write about. So why should I still have the option on the web?
For me it would be better:
– As with the unknown phone number, it shows me the contact if it finds it in the mail, so it could show me the contact in the messages if it matches it with something in the mail.
– If I delete a message on my iPhone, I want it to delete everywhere, which it won't do. Another improvement.
– How someone here wrote editing of the text sent. Good idea.
– Sending those drawing messages like clockwork. It has no use now. They have 3 people in my neighborhood and I still don't like it anymore
-It would be interesting to turn iMessage into a work tool. If we are working on a project with several people, then checking off completed tasks, sharing meetings, etc. I think there are apps for that, but Apple could also take over this.
Well, it would be better :)
It takes five clicks to take a photo, two in Messenger. It's a detail, but when you're used to fast access, why make it complicated :)
So I tried it, I start the camera with one long click, with the second I take a picture or start recording a video.
Ha! You see, you're always learning, I didn't know about holding the button at all. Thanks.
Not everyone has a Mac at work, so iCloud makes sense.
And you don't have an iPhone? Isn't it faster to reach for the phone? As an employee, you sometimes have such sites blocked or similar. It sounds like crap to me.
It's bullshit to write on a mobile keyboard when I can write on a comfortable PC keyboard.
