Apple's developer conference will start on June 6, and even before that, its rival Google has its own scheduled for May 11. He copied Apple's successful format and practices it for his needs, albeit on a smaller scale, as it only lasts two days. Even here, however, we learn relatively important news, including with regard to the Apple company.

Google I/O is an annual developer conference hosted by Google in Mountain View, California. That "I/O" is an abbreviation for Input/Output, just like the slogan "Innovation in the Open". The company held it for the first time in 2008, and of course the main thing here was the introduction of the Android operating system. However, the first ever WWDC was held in 1983.

Google Pixel Watch

Whatever the name of Google's smartwatch may be, it could be just what Apple is starting to really worry about. It is safe to say that the Apple Watch has the only competition in the likes of Samsung's Galaxy Watch4. But it was Samsung that worked heavily with Google on its Wear OS designed for wearables, and when Google shows its form of pure Wear OS, it could have an impact on the whole market.

Tizen OS failed to exploit the full potential of smartwatches, which is what Wear OS is changing. Therefore, if the portfolio of manufacturers that implement it in their solutions grows, Apple's watchOS share in the wearables segment may decrease significantly. So the threat is not so much the watch itself, but rather its system. In addition, Google is not doing very well with the first generation of its products and will certainly pay extra even for a smaller distribution network, when, for example, there is no official distribution of its products in the Czech Republic.

Google Wallet

It has been mentioned a lot lately that Google is going to rename its Google Pay to Google Wallet. After all, this name is not new at all, as it was the predecessor of Android Pay and then Google Pay. So the company wants to go back to where it started, although it mentions that "payments are always evolving and so is Google Pay," so it's somewhat contradicting itself.

So it will certainly not be just a possible renaming, because that in itself would not make much sense. So Google will want to make more inroads into financial services, in whatever way. Most likely, however, it will only be a fight on the domestic market, because even Apple Pay Cash has not yet had time to significantly expand beyond the US.

Chrome OS

Chrome OS is a desktop operating system that Google has been investing heavily in recently. They are trying to make it a platform that enables all conceivable use cases, they even want you to install it on old MacBooks that can't quite keep up anymore. At the same time, there should be closer cooperation with Android, which of course makes the most sense, because we know how iPhones and iPads communicate with Mac computers, for example. Here, Apple probably doesn't have to worry too much, because its computer sales are constantly growing, and Chromebooks are still different machines after all.

Other

It is of course a certainty that it will come to Android 13, but we wrote about that in a separate article. We should also look forward to the Privacy Sandbox feature, which is supposed to be a new attempt to replace cookies after the company failed with the FLoC initiative. So it's a privacy-focused ad targeting technology. A large part of the conference will certainly be devoted to Google Home, i.e. Google's smart home, which has a significant lead over Apple's.
