During the time of Apple's operation, we have encountered several times a situation where some services or products were not available on our market. For example, even the first iPhone, sometimes referred to as the iPhone 2G, was never officially seen in the Czech Republic. Something similar persists to this day, of which we can mention, for example, the payment method Apple Pay or EKG. In fact, domestic apple sellers have been using Apple Pay for almost 5 years, and EKG for almost a year. At the same time, we would also find differences in current operating systems. Therefore, let's focus on the goodies that Mac users here will not enjoy in macOS, while for people from the United States (and other countries) it is a completely normal thing.
Apple News +
The Apple News+ service is practically not talked about at all in the Czech Republic, and most users don't even know about its existence. It was introduced in 2019 and promises its subscribers fairly solid content. The service brings together leading publishers and magazines into one application, in which Apple users can regularly read a number of interesting and precisely processed articles. It includes, for example, the prestigious The Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times, Vogue, The New Yorker and others. For $9,99 a month, subscribers can enjoy content from over 300 magazines.
Another advantage is that Apple News+ subscribers don't just have to read. Recordings of the most popular articles are also offered, which will definitely please not only drivers, but also those who simply do not like to read. Even so, they can get access to up-to-date and high-quality information.
Dictionary
Within the macOS operating system, there is a native Dictionary application that can provide information about individual words. Specifically, it provides information on, for example, part of speech, pronunciation and meaning, or a thesaurus referring to synonyms and antonyms is also offered. Of course, we can also use this application here, but it has a minor catch. Of course, Czech is not supported.
Live text
Another feature is Live Text. In this case, Macs equipped with an Apple Silicon chip can automatically detect text in images and allow you to work with it. This trick also works in our country, but it is necessary to take into account that due to the absence of Czech language support, you may encounter various problems from time to time. However, it must be acknowledged that even so, Live Text works quite well.
System translation
The last function, which is unfortunately missing in our region, is system translation. Apple only introduced this new feature in this year's iOS/iPadOS 15 and macOS 12 Monterey systems. Thanks to it, it is possible to translate words and phrases across the world's most used languages practically immediately, right within the system. English, Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Italian, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish are currently available. For the time being, we can simply forget about supporting the Czech language. In short, they are too small a market for Apple, and a similar innovation would probably not make sense, although we would welcome it with all ten.
English-Czech and Czech-English dictionaries can be imported into the dictionary application. I've been using it for about 10 years and it's great.
Interesting post. That would be great for me. How then can it be done? Thank you in advance for your reply.
I was so interested in that - can you please give me a tip on how to do it? then I didn't find such a possibility.. thanks
But what also cannot be run is Visual Lookup in photos.
As for the system translation, that it is not Czech because we are a small market, I would not take it at all. After all, when an Englishman, a Chinese, an Indian come to the Czech Republic, they would probably also like to translate somewhere, right?
About Live Text you write "...Macs that are equipped with an Apple Silicon chip,...". The Live Text function also works on Intel versions. I specifically have a MacBook Pro 13″ 2019 Intel i5 and Live Text is available and working.
I have a question. What macbook is shown in the photo of this article?
but even here you can use a simple trick with a paper clip
There are plenty of dictionaries for the Dictionary application.
The Czech spelling check in the system is also available in several versions. So for intel cats.
