Facebook has decided to take a cue from Instagram and is slowly starting to test a system where users will not be shown the number of "Likes" on the web and in the mobile app. So far, a limited number of selected users could have noticed the change. They will see who has reacted to the posts in any way, but they will not receive information about the specific number of reactions.

The new feature is currently being tested in Australia, but Facebook is not yet sure whether it will be expanded to other countries. A Facebook spokesperson said that currently the goal of testing is to get relevant feedback. Based on this feedback, Facebook will then evaluate to what extent the change will improve the user experience.

In practice, the new feature looks like this, when browsing the news feed on Facebook - whether on the web or in the mobile app - users will no longer see how many reactions other users' individual posts have received. Additionally, users will also not be able to see the number of reactions their own posts have received. In both cases, however, it will be possible to find out who responded to the post. The goal of this change - both on Instagram and on Facebook - is to reduce the importance of "likes" and reactions to posts. According to Facebook, users should focus more on the overall quality of their content.

Instagram recently rolled out this change to other countries, initially the feature looked like users didn't see the number of "Likes" for other people's posts, but they did for their own.
